Hello All! :-)

I've recently acquired this portable component system, Victor PC-7, I believe, an ultra rare beast, at the Japanese Yahoo auction.
Never saw good photos or story of that unit on the Web.

Does somebody happen to know whether JVC PC-7, not Victor, ever existed?
If you have a PC-5, younger brother of PC-7, please tell me if the models of deck, amp and tuner are the same as in PC-7?
PC-7 possess another speakers, 2 way bigger ones and mixer component.

Cheers, guys! :)

Does yours have the DIN record/playback socket as seen next to the remote socket on my PC-5? I'm thinking maybe only the L and LB had the DIN socket as well as all of the RCAs. The blank in the rear cover has never been removed on mine so when I connect stuff to it, I have to take the back cover off as I can't bring myself to punch the blank out! :

But in answer to the question, yes, it appears that the components are the same, the only difference is that mine is a UK-spec PC-5 so the part numbers all have the LB suffix.

never seen that one but i have seen the pc 6 with the larger speakers , 71spud has an impressive example of these super rare jvc's , too bad he's awol because i would consider him an expert on these mainly because he has one, and he's jvc crazy like me.

actually i think the jvc version is the pc 6 and the victor version is the pc7 . can't remember but i thought the pc 6 had a 5 band eq . not 100% sure though.

It is basically identical to the PC-5, just with an added EQ section and larger speakers. Just like the PC-6 is identical to the PC-3, except with an extra EQ section and larger speakers.

Thank you, John, for the detailed pics and sharing your knowledge.

You see, I got it unboxed only yesterday night - BTW it's pretty heavy - exactly 15 kilos, thus haven't yet learned all sockets by heart - there are plenty of them on the back.
But as far as I might recall PC-7 has no DIN record/playback socket you mentioned. Will check that tonight and let you know.

Good to know that all units are the same as in PC-5 (except for mixer ans speakers) - will be easier to fix if necessary.
Anyway, the tape deck needs "intrusion" - it does FF and rewind, if you push Play the heads go up to tape but it doesn't start.
Belts, maybe, don't know yet.
And the main story is still speaker surrounding foams condition.
Last night it was too late to crank it upeven a bit loud but even at a small volume it does sound very good to me,
Loudness adds up a lot as well.
Tonight I will turn it a way up to see how the foams will respond. Anyway, I am ready to have them replaced but still have very little hope that they might be made of another material, not foam.
Will see and keep you posted.

Speakers - yeap, right.

But PC-7 has no EQ section but only bass and treble controls. Those sliders which might be erroneously taken for EQs are simply 3 external MIC levels, at a separate mixer unit. :)

That's Japanese domestic market boomer, Karaoke thing after all, as most of them. ;)

Yes, PC-6 does have 5 band Eq. but it's another model, a separate one.

And PC-6 isn't identical to PC-7 - just checked the photos here:

PC-6 even has other model of speakers , though they look pretty much the same with PC-7.

I stand corrected on the "EQ" vs "MIXER" on the PC-7. Not enough info on the model and I "assumed" according to what I know about the PC-6.

I will throw my PC 3,5,6 comparison in here just FYI. Looks like the PC-7 speakers are similar to the PC-6. You will also see the PC-55 and PC-11 speakers and the RB-95K large accessory speakers.

http://www.stereo2go.com/topic/jvc-pc-6--pc-5--pc-3-comparison

Rarity aside I would say that in the JVC PC series that the 55/550 are the best sounding by far and have the most features. Followed by the PC-6, then the PC-7 (assuming it would be not as good as the 6 due to the lack of the EQ, but better than the 5 due to the speakers) then the PC-5 and then the PC-3 and PC-11 in a tie. OF course there are plenty more in the PC series which includes (as far as I know)---

PC-1
PC-2
PC-3
PC-4
PC-5
PC-6
PC-7
PC-11 (some "clones" made of the PC-11 by other brands)
PC-25
PC-27
PC-30
PC-37
PC-39
PC-47
PC-50
PC-55 (same as 550, but in silver)
PC-70 (in silver, gray and red)
PC-90
PC-111
PC-150
PC-168
PC-200 (in silver and black)
PC-550 (same is 55, but black)

Hello John,
Just checked - no, as expected no DIN socket near the remote one on the PC-7 - just the blank.

Yes, you are right - info about PC-7 is very limited, almost none, at least what I've managed to find.
Don't know, almost seems like this model never existed.
Leaving alone good quality photos - Zero.
Thanks for the detailed list of the PC serie.

Damn, I had no idea the PC series was that extensive. Some quality information coming up in this thread!

I was a bit dissapointed that level meters didn't work in tuner/line mode at my PC-7 - I do like all those "jumping" needles and LEDs.

Luckily bumped into a good advice for PC-5 - just plug in headphones or even a phone connector 3.5-5mm or splitter without phones, everything, to the phones socket at the deck,
turn up the input level and without a tape even inserted the level meters will spring into action in tuner/line mode.
Now they look great!
