it is important to remember if you dont use your boomboxes regularly its bad for them.
so go get that one you have been neglecting and dust it off plug it in and let it rip.
its good for your caps its good for your belts and most of all you might just fall in love again.
i am pretty guilty of this at times too.
i think i should go give some of the neglected boxes a go before i crash for the night.

:agree: for sure I sometimes look at my M-90 and I could tell she is begging to be turned on. (No It's not what you think!) :-P

All fun aside I feel guilty also. I have not played any of my boomers lately. :sadno:

The last time it was the Studio 1M playing a recorded Maxell XLII and boy did she sounded so SWEET!

I must go through mine and give 'em all a mini session. :surf:

Been FAR too long for some of them :-/

Nothing worse than discovering after [extended periods] of non-use:- 'that never used to crackle before' or 'that always used to play at the right speed'

or 'what the hecks happened to the cassette deck?'

Yeah, definitely need to keep up a rotation system. I try and give all my carry-able working ones a good week of use to/from/at work to make sure they're all rockin.

The bigger ones I find harder to give a good run at as i'm using my VZ-3000 predominantly for living room listening and recording of late. But I was very pleased to give my C-100F and JC-2000 a good listen to on the weekend.

Rock On.

Me too bill..i have`nt used mine for more than a year, and some of them you can double that !
one time i put mine in my loft for about a year, when i got them down, half of them needed belts and switch cleaner..
I`m a bad owner..the last one i used was my jvc 656 last night..sounds soo smooth though for a standard looking box,i like it..

What a coincidence. Just got back from vaca and the boxes were just staring at me last night, so I put them through a minor jam session using all the features..

About half of my collection is in a rented self-storage room, a few miles from here, which makes bbx rotation nearly impossible. And I've paid the price. I've lost more tape decks from lack of use than from anything else.

Answer: don't have more boxes than you can use on a regular basis. Now, if I would just follow my own advice...!

I know exactly what you mean.

What a great post, Bill! Sometimes a little love for a boombox can go a long way. I guess it's time to retire the Aiwa CS-880 for a while and move on to the next one. ;-)

Good Mention!!!

I just found two of my forgotten first boxes  The tapes decks were either broken or the speed was fast/slow. I had them in the basement in Jan 2001 and just found them looking for some paper this month Aug 2009.

That's 8 years of being forgotten, but when I found them it was a great surprise! I was so happy and it felt like I had just bought them again :smooch:

So it's unanimous, we need to rotate and use all of our boxes but most of us don't. I'm guilty of not running all my boxes, I have some that haven't been powered on in probably 2 years. Who couldn't use a rekindled romance, fire up that old box and fall in love again.

I'm with you there Floyd, I've shrunk my collection down from nearly 80 to about 45 and I'm shooting for around 30. Did it for both space and the fact I lost track of so many boxes they were just stuffed into holes where ever I could find them. If I couldn't keep track of them there was no way I was using them.

Great topic !!!
I feel bad for the ones that get lost in a huge collection.
They just go to pot due to lack of use  .
I currently have 8 in my collection and I use 3 to 4 boxes on any given day.
I have three that i rotate for carry along duty.(Most every weekend I am toting one of the three along)
1. JVC- M-70
2. Crown 850
3. Rising SRC-2015
Telefunken Studio1M (bedroom duty) Use it almost every night till i fall asleep or when I am getting prepared to go out.
Telefunken HP-800 (Work /office duty) I use it almost every day.
Then the three Big guns get rotated for (Family room duty) I use one every day during dinner,or when I am just relaxing on the couch surfing the net. :ebay:
I try to rotate these at least every month.
The ones not in use are always proudly displayed in My Man cave or in various areas throughout the house.
The only area of concern in my collection is the tape decks.
I keep tapes in all of them and once in a while i will ffwd or rew an entire tape just to keep the parts moving but rarely do i ever play tapes. So I am guilty of neglecting my decks.
Unless of course I have a sweet mixtape by JT in one of the boxes I am using (like the one I am listening to at the office right now. :dj:
