Update on vz2000 restoration

Hi everyone just thought I’d update you on the sharp vz2000, I bought this awesome boombox for £150 from someone who lives near me in Sheffield England, I started to strip it down , the turntable has had a good clean, and old belt residue removed, it’s had new belts , and 2 new stylus, the speakers have been cleaned up , I’ve got no sound from the left channel , I’m no electronics expert but I’ve got a feeling it’s the left amp chip HA1392,I’ve ordered one so will change this first, the speaker covers have been repainted, and I’ve ordered headlamp de yelllowing kit to get the scratches out of the clear Perspex covers, will probably change cassettes belts while I’m at it , this is my first restoration and I’m loving it ,it’s a slow process as I work as a gas engineer, will need sliders , but they are available on eBay , a great feeling removing 43 years of dirt from the vz2000 and hopefully getting it back to something like new, any advice will be much appreciated, thanks Ade

i thought the Vz2000 had an STK Amp in them ? i've owned a few Vz2000 and a Vz2500, not 100% because i can't fully remember but i'm sure the ones i owned had the STK in them, i think they had the Amp Board screwed to the back with an Heat sink and the Chip is screwed to that. i could be wrong though

Just finished a service of my VZ2000, Belts on Turn tables and Tape Deck, new stylus and i 3D printed my own sliders, I had a problem with no sound on one of the channels. mine turned out to be a connector issue, the previous owner after stripping and re-assembly of the unit had pushed the speaker connection plug off center forcing the internal pins on the socket to lift into the speaker housing causing it to lose contact.
The other thing is to try is cleaning the external speaker selection switch housed in the rear of the unit, then plug a headset into the headset socket, if both channels are working in the headset its more than likely your power amp is fine, I think from memory the power amp also drives the headphone socket!

The Ha1392 do go, I have replaced a few.
Just check the electrolytic capacitors around the chip as these often go short circuit and blow the chip in the first place, so worth checking those to make sure you don’t blow the replacement chip.
