Some of you may have seen the original post i posted where some idiot sent me this just in a cardboard box & sure enough it got smashed. I was pretty pissed & about to send it back but thankfully some of yall on here talked me into trying to get some money back & fixing it... THANK YOU!! cuz this thing sounds MEAN... i mean it sounds like crap, nobody should buy any of these :-D So i basically ended up paying $20(& a couple cans of paint) after my partial refund, the rest i had.

heres a refreshed of what i was working with

sorry i didnt get a good "before photo" cuz i was so pissed & just started ripping this thing apart to see if i could even find all the pieces... but here is some of the many pieces i found. there were a couple pieces i couldnt find & had to fill w/ epoxy.

thing was layered in vintage toppings...

now the fun part, making the puzzle fit. the hard part is before this kind of plastic snaps its bend/morphs at some point of the break. so i had to find these tiny little areas & cut or grind them off. because if one piece is slightly off the last couple pieces you glue wont fit right.

i used this plastic bonding super glue to assemble the puzzle & then a layer of 2 part epoxy over it & to fill the gaps. then sanded & painted away. i masked off the tope area that has the "M-X650K" cuz i didnt wanna lose that & the slight two tone looks real nice. & this is how it turned out. :breakdance: :breakdance: :breakdance:

thanks again to all of you who talked me into doing this. i really love the way this box sounds, get one if you ever have the chance, & if you know anyone that has one of these for parts i still need those little function lever/knobs.

Holy shiat that turned out great  . I think the Sharp GF-777 switch covers might fit the M-X650K. I will check tonight when I get home for you  .

The switch covers from the 777 line do fit on the M-X650K switches, but they are too long along the face of the boombox and you can't fully "switch" the switch to all positions. You could grind down the ends on the 777 covers and use them  . Also, the Sharp GF-8989 / 8989 II have the switch on the front of the box, the 777 and M-X650K covers fit the 8989 switch too  and it can still be switched to all positions.

SUPERB work, Swanson! Really excellent job.

It's good to learn these kind of techniques, and most importantly, be confident in doing them early on in the piece as a collector.
You don't know when a grail is going to turn up in less than optimal condition. Even melted spots and damage other than horrors
caused 'in transit' can be worked away. I find the more time and personal investment I put into any radio, like your Sanyo, becomes
a much more sentimentally valued one in my collection.

Best of luck in the future Swanson, you've built up some righteous blasterkarma on this project!

Rock On.

GREAT WORK. I can feel your sense of pride through your post. There is something very satisfying at the end of a project like this. Like Gluecifer said, now if a dream box comes up that needs work and is the right price you now have the skills to walk into that project with confidence.

Top Notch Work!
