Just a look into my world.

This weekend...has...been tedious. :-/

A warning to RC-550 owners, of which we seem to have more and more every day, about their boomboxes. If you ever have to open your box, be careful. I heard things rattling in mine when it arrived, so of course I dove right in. Opened it up, and as I carefully lifted the main PCB out of the box, the upper board for the topside controls which should have been soldered on fell right off.! :annoyed:

Which led to this...

Everything works fine again, like it did when it first arrived. How that board worked with all the cracked and broken solder joints I'll never know.

A word of caution...if it rattles, be f'n careful. Slow down. You never know when something might hit the deck if you're not careful.

A small handfull of parts. A spring, a small plastic pully, the cap for the pully, two screws, a washer, and two identical plastic parts.

The pully had a rubber o-ring around the outside of it. I got it and it's cap is back in place.

The rest is on my workbench. This happens all the time with new boxes.

Pictures of parts to follow.

This baby cranks.

I'm glad you were able to fix it!

I got lucky because I bought it from the original owner who lives hardly 12 miles away.

I still haven't figured out how to replace the belts on it. My belts looks fine, but like to know the correct procedure without damaging any internal parts. First, it looked simple to me and later on I somehow lost it. The top soldered part of the board was the tricky area.

I love the box!

Mine cranks. Really like that about it.

Do you know the length of and where I might find belts for it? It only has two (ones the tape counter) one short and one long and flat.

I reconditioned mine but FF & RW are kind of weak. Ought to be replaced soon.

HI,

Actually I don't know the size of those belts. My plan was to call up and find out from these guys http://www.studiosoundelectronics.com/cassette.htm#BELT
if they know it. I would imagine one of our members will be able to help us here.

I attached a file that has all the JVC belts at the lower bottom, but didn't see RC 550.

NOTE: BE EXTRA CAREFUL WITH THE RECORD SWITCH!   Especially when you align the top PC board (I'm sure you are well aware of it, but still..)
