Does anyone have this one? I've never seen this JVC before... :hmmm:

For a one-speaker boombox, this thing cranks!! :w00t:

I've only had it for a few days. Both the radio section (including the shortwave bands) and cassette have excellent performance. But, the volume that pours out of this bad boy is the real stunner! :-)

Never seen that model, but it sure is a looker.
The speaker and grill are reminiscent of an 838.
Are those green leds across the top? ( yep, I was looking at it through my Blackberry's small screen. )
Nice mono AB! What's the model #?

Hey, that's pretty cute. :-) I like that '70s selector switch too. What's the model number?

If I tell you guys the model number, you'll be bidding against me for the next one! :-P

Model is JVC RC-345JW

Yes, those are green LEDs. In radio mode, they are a signal strength meter. In tape play or record mode, they are a VU meter (VU metering seems spot on).

The first seven are green, the last three are red (10 total).

The two separated red LEDs on the far right are battery strength.

Seriously, I would like to get another.

Yes, I also thought of the 838 right away! :-)

...the 838's little bro!!

I remember those!!!! They sold them at the military exchange where we lived back in the early 80's. A friend from then had one. That box is like a mono-838, and from what I remember it does go pretty loud and the tapedeck is robust and can sound good. Later, that friend got an M70 to "up his 'cred." LOL!

Does it have a line-in and line out? I think you can record stereo radio and line in on that one... because I seem to recall that my friend used it as a tape deck on his home system and made lots of mixtapes on it, and his tapes always sounded pretty good in my Sharp 9292 at the time...

Regardless of wheter it has RCA's or not, I'm thinking that is one substantial looking mono! Definitely worth having! Congrats.

Wow, I just realized that I hadn't thought about that box or my long lost friend's mixtapes since around 1980 or so... Thanks for posting this.

Believe it or not the tape deck still works on this JVC, and it's never been opened (that I can tell). Plays tapes rock solid. In fact, it played an old tape at the correct speed that was binding on some of my other machines. So yes, a great cassette machine.

Yep, has line in and out. :-)

The only disadvantage to this box I can find is the simple "tone" control. However, JVC did something nice here too. It appears that about 6-8 db of bass is added at low volumes, and is progressively lessened as the volume moves past "6." The tone control simply adds or subtracts the highs. Still, I prefer separate bass and treble controls, or better yet, an equalizer! :w00t:

I'd be a liar if I said I didn't like the LED VU too!

Man I'm telling you something,I went to Spuds house last fall.
I seen the biggest JVC collection I've ever seen.
He has almost every JVC boombox model ever made.
lots of M.I.B. models
He even has doubles of some models.
And triples and more of other models.
For instance,I know I seen at least 2 M90's and at least complete 5 PC5's
That guy is a certified JVC nut,no kidding. :dunce: :jawdrop:

I'm becoming a certified JVC nut--I'm not sure why yet... :dunce:

Maybe the styling, street cred, and sound quality/power?

Anyway, I have the service manual to the RC-345JW on order. If anyone needs some info--holla! :stereo:
