So I have these two new ones today:

The Lasonic I931 - Had to have one of these as it just looks so funky, I was pretty shocked when I got it as they feel like absolute plastic piles of shite lol! If you look at it but go no where near it then its quite impressive, closer inspection is less appealing. However, its quite funky looking, has some good features and if you play around with it a bit it sounds pretty good. Had a few peeps around earlier tho and everyone flocked to it, poked it, played stuff, asked a million questions etc. My wife and son both really liked it to. I'm going to call it a win.

Then had this little find, at a local market for £6. Apart from some sticker residue on the deck door it looks pretty nice. Non working deck but I will tackle this soon (being a Sanyo I'm guessing its going to be a pretty scary one), I stiill have a 9990 here that I need to pluck up the courage to rebelt so it will have to join the queue.

I'm guessing both this C9 and the 9990 are going to be a pain in the ass to do....

This is pre clean up, haven't touched it yet, have tried the line in and radio and fm transmitter though, all good. This thing has some power for sure, its super loud at half volume and pumps pretty good. I don't usually do 3 piecers and am getting a bit more picky now but for just over a deep sea diver it was hard not to.

Nearly three! :-D I just had a second chance offer from the vendor of one that I had proxied and forgotten about, as the final bid was from a serious collector who's known in the eBay vintage radio group for never, ever backing out.. He did this time. The pillock!

Mine for well shy of a nifty but I have 48 hours to make the ba5t4rd sweat, erm, sorry, I meant to say consider his offer in miniscule detail and run it past my solicitor on Monday.

So apart from exploding electrolytics, what other joy lies in store? I'd have one for its looks alone.

I'm not sure what the craic is with the deck access in the C9, but I rebelted my C5 without too much drama, The hard part was fitting every board back in under the battery tray in the deck after the ribbon wiring had become straightened when removed and was reluctant to adopt its original shape without a little violence!
Not sure whether C9's speakers stay in plastic or wooden enclosures, but if they're the same empty polystyrene type as C5 has, then it'll take at least half a stone of glassfibre wool to get the bass into shape, with empty cabinets and no baffling the lower frequencies sound like someone chapping along the inside of a shoebox with a wooden spoon! A bag or three of GRP later, and the sound becomes solid and hard pounding, no looseness remains. ;-)

Two great scores, well bought that man.

That is very useful info on the speakers thanks mate, I think they are plastic cabinets, so I will need some glass fibre wool then, from ebay or an audio shop im guessing? I will have a google right now.

You have filled me with confidence for rebelting so will give it a shot. I did a M9998 recently so feel I could tackle anything after that. Bloody Sanyo's!

I've yet to have the pleasure of rebelting a large, one piece Sanyo but the C5 deck was more fiddly than actually difficult to do so fingers crossed the C9 is similar.

I found the pics that I took when I was refurbishing the C5's deck:

Cramped, but not hard to do. :-)

Lovely Hi Res pics thanks, I have saved these to serve as inspiration. Will try and get that job done this week, will then attempt my 9980L :)

2 great scores! I agree the I931 doesn't feel very beefy and solid but its nice eye candy  Good job on finding some great deals, its always a good feeling to get a good price on a box, Cheers! :beer2:
