I purchased an M-9990 a year ago that had deck issues. I purchased it even though it had these issues 'cause it was drop dead cosmetically gorgeous. Thought about parting it out, but Super & Bill convinced me to keep at it. Turns out the clutch pads were fried.
Fast forward to a year later. Scotty had an M-9990 on the bay that had seen it's better days. Or so it seems. Looking quite the worse for ware (almost like acid had been splashed on it,) yet Scott insisted all was right mechanically, 'cept for a small volume level difference between right and left sides. Knowing that if Scott said it was so, it damn well was so, I got it for, I think, $35.00-$40.00 wasn't it Scott? Damn fine price for a fully working M-9990. The clock only works intermittently, but more on that later.
First thing I did was clean the heads and, low & behold, the problem got better, and the sound clearer. Looking under magnification I saw something on one side of the head. Taking my non-destructive tool (a toothpick) I lightly scraped it off and voila', perfect sound.
Last night I decided it was time to go for it. After having cleaned and prepped the case halves from the first box I gently dropped the Board, Tuner, & Deck from the second into the front half of the first case, screwed it all down, and attached the first back case on. After having a DUH! moment and turning off the timer, she fired right up, sweet as all hell!
Gonna have to study a post from last year about fixing the clock before she comes apart again, but that's tomorrow, and I can't wait. Just like I couldn't wait to set up decent pics.
But I had to get this big out to Super, Bill, and especially Scott without who this all would not have been possible.
