Seeing these two side by side really give you a size perspective, especially if you have one of them and know their size!

Lasonic TRC-935 & Sharp GF-777z

For the most part, these two radio's have very little in common. The Lasonic is a pure Street Blaster.....LOUD....lot's of LED lights, chrome and Bling Bling. The Sharp is a VERY Heavy Portable recording studio, modest design, a bit subdued but still very powerful. One Black, One Silver. Both run on 10 D cell's. It's tough not to like the both.

Can't agree with you there Alan, for me the 777 is much more refined.

@ Chris, man you've got some heavy hitters, I'd love to fly over and take a look one day, Cali is only $1000 away from me.

Two absolute classis Las, on pure looks alone i prefer the 935

Thanks Alan, The 935 surely gets points for looks and Bling. I think Lasonic had great visual designers back in the day. As many talk about the quality of these boxes, they are not a Sharp or Panasonic level of quality. But they sure blew minds when it came to looks. Don't get me wrong...these things are LOUD as hell, but still not as high build quality. But back in the day, the price reflected it. The 777 was $800 and the 935 was probably $250-$300

Refined is a good word for it....very good fit and finish. I'm cranking the 777 right now and it's clean!

Terry, any time you want to come over for a visit, you've got a room! We'll each grab a monster box and hit the streets!

Of course that $1000 could get you some SERIOUS Box / Boxes!

I got my first TRC-931 for $125 when they came out. A year or so later I remember spotting the 2nd edition models in the Center City Woolworth's for about $140 or something like that... 935's were probably priced about $25 - $50 higher than those.

Lasonic stole/borrowed a lot of style cues from Sanyo, and in some ways, improved on 'em... They probably got their most famous feature, the chrome speaker bars (now a Lasonic trademark), from Sharp.

The 777 is the true Grand Salami of the boombox world - pure power in a portable package! So many out there that it's almost like the "gold standard" of boxes - the one you can compare other boxes to so as to have an idea of how they sound (for better or worse!)

I still think it's the most impressive box to look at. I've discovered it's limitations, though, and moved into better sounding boomers...but I always keep coming back to it when I want one on display to impress.

When you want LOUD, come big or don't come at all! :breakdance:

Great thread with two minty looking boomers...you rock, Chris!

I do belive I've given myself an idea for a thread! :hmmm:

Completely awesome Chris!!
To me both of those units DOMINATE both ends of the ghettoblasting spectrum.

Fantastic stuff, beautiful radios.

Rock On.
