Well I finally got hold of one of these after 30 years or so
Yes, it's my favourite M-7900K rip off from who else but our very own Currys pre Matsui days..........
It's almost comical to see the likeness
I have seen these from time to time but they have all been f**ked & not worth a carrot let alone a restore!! This one came with horrid unwanted stickers, plenty of paint spots & a yellow tobacco tinge making the silver look yukky but I was pretty sure it was worthwhile buying her...........
Now a Sanyo it ain't, but the internals are very tidy & well thought out just low cost components & speakers compared to it's rival - that said it has nice solid pressed steel cassette deck very well made & still working today with no worn or bent pushbuttons like many later machines had!! Tidy main circuit board with mostly pluggable connectors made stripping & cleaning a doddle........strangely the tape/radio selector was seized solid as was the wavechange switch! A generous dose of servisol & a lot of patience restored all the switchgear to perfect working order
Oddly the variable tuning capacitor was filthy & would not tune in properly at all........2 blasts of servisol sorted that out!!
Lastly lots of foam cleaner, soft brushes & cotton buds were used to clean her up followed by a head & roller clean & tiny azimuth tweak resulted in a near pristine little Triumph & I love it
pure nostalgia (mine got lent out in 1983 & never returned
so I have wanted one ever since really)
Cost me £79.99 in 1983 & a lot less this time lol!!
Video a little noisy as I forgot to turn my air conditioner off
Doh!!
Am certain many AKA's exist but this is the one for me
