So I was watching an auction on an RT-90s b/c I am interested but don't have the extra cash. The auction went from $~200AU to o$935AU ($715US) in the final 5 SECONDS. Plus the cost of shipping from AU. I couldn't believe it. I was tempted to bid when the price was low ~1 minute before closing....but just couldn't hit the button. I would have lost regardless. Silly me thinking I was the only one watching that baby. Demand is so high that it makes this hobby insane. But I suppose it is what makes it so exciting. Except its darn disappointing when you want something (think kid on Dec 24th) and just can't get it. :bang: :bang: :bang:

I've read posts where people say to get a fairer price, buy when they show up for sale. Is there a special section where sales are posted or do you just gotta be in the know?

People have paid far more than that for that model here in the states. Some folks always suggest that rare models are overpriced and you can get them cheaper. They don't mention that you might have to wait 20 years to find one at the price they suggest, or if you ever do at all. That particular model is as you can tell is very attractive, extremely rare (only ever released in Japan) and an excellent performer. Sadly, repair of that model is not easy due to it's very complicated circuitry, especially in the deck area. It does not have the typical record bar switch and relies on solid state switching, and as it employs an early form of double side board that has proven not to be reliable, a malfunctioned deck is hard to get going again (and no, there is no service manual we know of for this model).

We have a for sale section but just be forewarned that any member here that owns one knows what it is worth, and no, you aren't going to get a deal. They know what they are worth and will be wanting what they know it's value to be. You just don't see them often because they are rare.

as an aside... All the last minute ebay bidders create a hole in the auction times, distorting the demand and confusing the sellers. So you can email a seller, while they still have no bids, and sometims work out a good deal.

No I goofed, the service manual is for an RT-90S. I was a bit confused why you'd pay so much for such a normal looking box, but then superduper set me straight :-) You're talking about an RT-S90, which is gorgeous. Still learning my models :-)

You make good points. I actually got my M90 by emailing the seller and offering to drive to his place (1 hr away) to pick up for his starting price (which wasn't that cheap). I guess that is a good way and also finding a sale that may have just been posted (and being the first to see!)....or else have some good friends or lots of money :-)

Happy hunting all!

That's great box. Light weight for its huge size but the sound is amazing, so smooth, so warm. It's also gorgeous and rare too.

it's very lucky I had mine for only 50 buck. Has issue with the power supply but fully functional

Although one could argue the WX-1 or Mackenzie are the flagship boomboxes from Toshiba, I for one, consider the S90 in the same small group that I'd put the M90, and Big Ben. I've owned all three for a while now and it is sooo hard to split them unless you look at details that for many may be insignificant.

The S90 is one of the classiest designs ever for onepiecers, I definitely encourage anyone serious about having the richest sounding radios put as much effort as you can muster into getting one.

Rock On.

Sweet. Eventually I want one of these or maybe even a sharp 9696. Those two are solidly built.
