So i picked this up recently, a rare cheap Epay score. Needed a clean, a new aerial, grills sprayed and a little dry joint on the volume pot sorted. A good deck over haul finished her off nice and shes blasting in the background as i type.

Here is the auction pic and some internals:

Congrats. This has always been one of my personnel grails. Never seen a deal for one on Ebay. What did you do to clean up that speaker cone? Do you just clean it (no paint). I don't really like the idea of using acrylic paint on a paper cone.

Was considering doing it with the JVC 550 because it had something spilled on it....but the grill will probably cover up this imperfection (at least most of it).

On this I haven't done anything to the cones except clean them. I did colour the tweeters and I used a really wide nib black whiteboard marker. Looked great when done but decided to leave the cones as you can't see them enough to worry.

I usually use a good quality artists acrylic paint watered down to fairly thin, had great results. Recently also coloured some woofers silver with a very fine spray paint, this gave a great finish and very even, I was careful and masked well to avoid edges where the cone flexes. I have noticed no sound difference with any method.

Beautiful...this model looks better than the bb40 and you can garantee not as cheaply made

I agree. But if a BB40 came across at a price 50% more than the BB16, and I could only get one, I would have to pick the 40 every time! The 40 is such a beast which gives it it's place in boombox lore.

That's not to say that I wouldn't do everything in my power for a BB16. Check my signature. It's the only one listed as "wanted" .

Cool Bombeat 18. Actually didn't know about this one. It's a little dinged up, but apparently 100% functional. For $300 ain't bad for Ebay. I'm not a fan of the square grills on this model either. But it is still a beauty. Regardless, I've got a couple projects, and can't tackle this at the moment.
Hmm i have one of these to!

Nice! If I didn't own an RT-8290s, I would have seriously considered it. The BB18 is not much larger, and there are bigger fish to fry out on my "dream list". I do love my RT-8890s. That thing is with me on the regular, and still in....almost....mintyesque condition.

Real nice Tre, always love me a good Tosh, mostly they look the part but not always sound the part. Weird because some of them sound amazing like the 932/933.
