Nice trip to the Goodwill outlet Saturday. Got a bunch of '80s 45s still in sleeves and miraculously great shape...and if you've ever been through the bins in a Goodwill outlet, you know what a miracle that is. And I also took pity on this mutt that followed me home.
It's an Aiwa SCD-ES225. Not a lot to speak of here: just the basic late-'90s CD/radio/tape. But it does have Q Sound. Basically it's just reverb and maybe some psychoacoustical tricks to fool you into a wider soundstage. Interesting to note that the tone knob is just marked "Bass." And I have it all the way up.
Surprisingly, it all works! No cord, but it did come with batteries. Only real issues are that the antenna's bent a little and the tape deck is kinda squealy and distorted at times (although I wonder if some of that is the batteries). So even though it's not the kind of box I normally gravitate to, it was hard to say no for $5. Hell, I couldn't get the batteries alone for that price.
