Scored these two filthy mutts from a fellow who called me from 100 miles away saying that someone told him I might like them. He said they were in a free pile outside of a deceased electricians home, and in good condition. After checking his story with a local,I asked a buddy to grab them while passing through there.

I received this unbelievably dirty Panasonic RX-5150 that is all working except the counter and a missing knob, discolored,of course.
And this Tenna Phase III PS-817 Splendid Sound with problems. I bought them unseen for $50 plus a 6-pack for the buddy who picked them up.

Boxes are rare where I live and everyone collects records now. The guy who found these in an estate free pile said there were others but he only had two hands and it was raining. Oh,man....

Does any sound come from the 5150's tweeters? I've owned 2 and the tweeters sounded dead.

They are dead or make higher frequency not audible to human ear! :w00t:   May be over 20,000Hz.

Those tiny piezoelectric tweeters are for decoration purpose also. I have two 5150 and heard some chirps once in a while.

Some members had success replacing them with real tweeters.

My Aussie spec 5150s tweeters were so piercingly loud, I always had the treble turned right down!

Great box with a very reliable deck + Panasonic belts tend not to turn to sticky black mush!!

Nice finds,

James..... :-)

That's weird, maybe the tweeters are strong when new, but then burn out.

Well, these cleaned up ok. I never shy away from those dirty radios.
The 5150 had thick coffee stain rings on the top. Ugh. It works but has a rotten battery terminal. And the volume knob is missing with a dent behind it but works.

I can't find any info on the Tenna.

Tenna Phase III PS-817
Looks to be the only one on the 'net, but I'm not that great at searching on there.

Well,I put the Tenna on Ebuy just because I couldn't find any info on it,and I don't have time to open up another box.

But the 5150 would be cool to find a knob and flip switch cover for it.
Or trade/sell it to a member if they want,to avoid giving payal/ebuy their blood money,if someone could use the parts left on it.It's got the battery door, antenna and a few knobs.
I see a wanted forum on here,is there a sell/trade specific section?

Thanks guys, there aren't any collectors in my town, and it's cool to know that other folks give a damn about these radios just like me.

These are both interesting boomboxes. I love this Panasonic especially, has neat looks. Despite this missing knob, it reminds me that i should find me a tuning knob for Toshiba RT-120S  Nice finds for sure

Looks like a good score. The 5150 is so classically styled. I'm hoping to add one to the collection some day.

Your 5150 cleaned up exceptionally well! I've got one and the tweets work, but barely. They don't last forever.
