Finally ran across a decent find this week. Really Nice Goldstar TSR-581. 2 Tape deck keys were busted but fixed them today and cleaned it up. Sounds pretty good! Everything works great except the clock. Has anyone had any luck with repairing the clocks on one of these, or figured out some kind of replacement?

I don't see any discoloration. I usually find the wiring at fault. Sometimes it cracks and lets go. Especially from the back up battery area. You won't know till ya open it up to know for sure. Good luck.

I've a citizen version of that box. As for the clock are you sure it does not run on a separate battery. I ve a few radios with clocks that use a separate battery for the clocks.

I changed the battery but no luck yet.

UPDATE: Clock is now working. Here is the fix.

If you look at the original battery vs a new battery you can see that the positive terminal on the original battery is much smaller in diameter than the new batt.

This would not let the positive terminal of the new battery make contact with the contact that supplies battery power to the clock because of the notch in the plastic case.

I added a little dob of solder to the contact strip,

reinstalled and clock now has power!
