So, a mere 24 hours ago, I knew nothing about vintage tapes. I picked up my first box a couple of weeks ago and I had been checking out the thrift stores for some blank cassettes to record a few old school scratchin' mixes. I found a few sealed TDK SA90 and D90 and some Maxell XL II 60s. I kept my eye open for "vintage looking" tapes to add to the old school feel. I also had an 80's party last weekend, so i wanted to accesories properly. I found a $1.50 bag of mostly kids xmas music, but what caught my eye where the solid colored tapes. I thought they would look cool with new custom printed labels to display with my box.
Anyway, this morning I started to think about all the reel 2 reel type cassettes I've been seeing in the boxes on here and was surprised as hell that real vintage cassettes can fetch such high prices. On the way home from work, I hit the usual thrift stores and I found a bag with 4 of the pictured sealed tapes. When I searched for the TDK MA-R90, I had to hold back my little schoolgirl giggles. Were, i would have passed up this bag just yesterday, today I scoured every inch of the wall where they usually hang cassettes. My mind is still blown that I could get this lucky.
So, I have a question. I'm not enough of a die-hard boombox collector (yet anyway) and definetly not any kind of audiophile So, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna sell it. I noticed the original Japanese price tag, will this make it anymore desirable?
I found some info on the other tapes, but nothing on the TDK DS90. Any idea of it's value? It's a Normal bias, type I with japanese language on the back. The XL II is also in japanese and the rest are in english. I knwo these sell for much less, so I'll just keep them for whatever recording I might want to do.
I also scored a mint Toshiba KT-R2 cassette recorder with the RP-S2 FM stereo tuner pack and a carrying case. Probably gonna ebay that too.
