WOW, what a score. When I was in 7th grade, before I got my first radio / cassette I used to go over to my friends house. His parents had a console stereo system with a reel to reel hooked up to it. His father gave him is own tape reel and after school we used to go over there and record our favorite songs off the radio!

The sound quality and head room was AMAZING. Too bad we have such high end equipment and such poor modern recordings!

I may need a reel to reel!

Dude, even if there is only one good cassette in that lot, you can't beat zero cost. Way to go, Terry. :-)

Awesome!!!! Congrats.

I've never heard of that brand, but as L-920 pointed out R2R's are (for the most part) exceptional recorders. I recommend busting out the q-tips and givng that Thorn's tape path a thorough cleaning with some of the highest % isopropyl you can find! Then, hook it up to your home stereo and make a compilation tape of your favorite tracks.

Or, listen to what's on those tapes now if you can stand it... ;-)

This could turn out to be a fun and rewarding project for you, maybe a good way to kill a lazy rainy day indoors and force you to go through your music collection.

If you end up not wanting to keep it, make a video of it working and upload to youtube... and put it up for sale on ebay with a link to that vid as proof that it works. (which will surely yield a higher sale price than just pics).

Good luck and enjoy!

Looks like it only has mic inputs, mics are there as well.

It will probably go on ebay after I clean it up and run through the tapes.
