Sign of the times. Only as recently as fifteen years ago, you'd have toiled to find something that would get below 17 from the showroom, now a totally stock VW Golf Diesel (wrong wheel drive, ffs!) gets through the quarter in 15.6 seconds thanks to DSG, a clever lsd and launch control. All that on a mere 184bhp (DIN) which is around 219 in SAE terms.
I'm thinking that the V8 would make a better noise though.
