Hi everyone-I had the pleasure of being up in the wilderness back with the Sharp GF-9797 & was also up at my brothers cabin in the shed with both first the Sony CFD-550 and was playing CD's & cassettes & the radio.
Overall good medium sound with the CD's and with cassettes,BUT when the volume goes up on this it's ok if you aren't really playing bassy songs.
You really have to tune down the Bass Boost and the low frequency eq to make it not sound like crap!
The problem with the Sony is that the speaker enclosures are no good!! Overall cheap!!
The speakers are all right and the power is good but bad enclosures. This boombox would be much better with good speaker enclosures.
Now for the GF-9797! There really is no comparison quality wise and getting into much better, cleaner bass.
Just way better-I like the Sharp-It just has really decent sound and good quality sound!
If there is 1 thing the GF-9797 is lacking is in the bass department.
Could use a little better bass for those size of speakers but I'm not really complaining.
I really put the Sharp GF-9797 through the paces last week & weekend!!
I took it on a hike through the woods to!
I used it on cassette-works great! Slightly louder on left side but not bad.
I love the radio!! This is where this thing shines!! Very powerful and the digital tuner is very, very strong!!
I also used the Line-In with my I-pod to-worked great!!
Overall-It's the Sharp GF-9797 being the winner here! Just another example of old school quality beating the newer junk!!
Have a great weekend-GB.
