well not really but i guess we have had our share of buying boxes that were meant to be a fixer upper of parts box, well i had the opportunuty to get my hands on a gf-9696 from my best friend ira , this was suppose to be a parts box from about 2 years i belive he ended up getting a complete one that really did not need anything except the belts.. so i ended up with a box missing the handle, the battery cover, the grills, was missing a chunk of aluminum trim for the cassette deck and the sw knob and some front control knobs and antennas a piece of plasic that was missing close to the handle,, so i thought to myself i will find parts so it sat but before i put it to the side i desided to take a look at it inside to see in what condition it was in the radio worked i saw the cassette motor running so i replaced the belts and the little capstan rubber, the case inside looked in good shape all plastic post were intact so wala it works so after a long long wait i tried to find whatever i could find. no no parts well until a few months ago i started to look at it and said to myself just let it go for the parts not like you were going to get alot out of it..lol sooooo i guess i was lucky that chris trc-931 had a 508 a complete one so he sent the info for it i payed him and i got the parts i needed.. as i opened the 508 it was in real bad shape i really understood what he had told me about it was broken when he recieved it, i really wanted to save it but it was so bad of a shape was not worth the trouble even on the outside it looked ok but no soooo i just took parts that i needed for my 9696 i used some cosmetics from the 508 so here is a pic of it
