Hi everyone-I just got a damaged 8989II in and am going to restore it as it was quite dirty to but works 100%!!
I just have to get the right Epoxy or JB Weld for the piece to be out back in and the crack I may use a toothpick and put some in there and put pressure on the case until it hardens.
Really wanted to ask Hemiguy Frank as he's good with these kind of repairs.
What's the best type of epoxy or what-not for this repair??
Here's the photos,I'm excited to how this is turning out just need to get this back in palce and work on that crack.
Have a good week-GB. :-)

GB, I would super glue that piece back in then probably JB weld a piece of plastic on the inside for added rigidity .
Same for the crack on the side.
Good luck with the repair. Keep us up to date.

Hi Frank-Thanks for replying!!
I'll use some Gorilla Glue Super Glue and then like you said I'll reinforce her from the back with a piece of plastic with JB Weld.
I'll keep you informed.
Hi Ramon-Yes this is sad but If I really glue this right It won't hardly be noticeable at all!
I got 45.00 off so it was only 34.00 for this-now that's better!
Have some before photos coming up on this thread!
Thanks again-Jeff. :-)

I've seen worse (in my own collection!)

I've used two part epoxy's with good results in the past. Some of those are so strong, the plastic around it will break before the bonded area!

Good luck, looking forward to more pictures when you get it back together!

Whenever using super glue try to use accelerator with it.
Lots of different brands make it, Zip Kicker, Flashtac, Mercury Adhesives, and this mob:

http://www.cyberbond1.com/products_sub.aspx?Category=Blast+Accelerator

Should be available at any model/hobby shop that does RC gear and such.

This stuff will make the bond about 10x stronger, perform better gap filling and
cure the glue instantly.

Good luck!

Rock On.

Hi Glue-Hey your name fits this thread!!
I just got some of the best super glue ever-It's Gorilla Glue Super Glue-Impact tough!!
It's the best I've used-better than the Krazy or Super glues I've used in the past.
I now have the breaks fixed and am letting this cure.
I used some on the back side to re-inforce and then put some JB Weld on the back for better re-inforcement.
I super glued a penny (back side down) ont the crack on the inside for strength!
It now looks like it's stronger than it was originally!
Photos of the progress tonight.
By tomorrow-should be back together & cleaned-up.
Just wondering if I need to paint the side where the crack is? :hmmm:
I'll keep you all updated on this one-GB. :-) :breakdance:  :surf:  :choco:

Hi Guys-I got it back together and it looks pretty good!
I'm now taking photos today-been super busy and my computer is getting fixed right now!
The really cool thing is that it sounds killer!!
I had this up to 7 listening to a great FM station and it was just like I remembered-loud and clear!!
I love these so much-I have 2 now and will hopefully be getting a mint one!
Sorry about the delay-will have photos posted by tonight or tomorrow.

I did glue a penny-back side down to help get better rigidity on the crack on the side-Couldn't really find a piece of plastic to get in there but I feel this thing is as strong as it was new!
I'm glad this deal turned out great for me after all!
Have a super weekend-GB. :-)  :breakdance: :surf: :choco:

Didn't know it was a foot, I thought it was a flipper. :w00t:

As for the crack -- that is a simple repair for acrylic solvent. No filler, just welds the original virgin material together and cures strong like original. If done skillfully, the repair sometimes looks like a casting seam rather than a crack.

Hi Norm & all-I used the Gorilla Super Glue & the JB weld for inside seam re-inforcement!
The first thing is: the crack on the backside must have been hit hard!
I got both ends to stay flush but the middle bowed out a little! :hmmm:
I did feel better with my crack though-It sealed real nice and was re-inforced on the back with a penny and JB weld to!
I feel with a little fine sanding and a paint job on the sides & top it will look really nice until I can find a back someday.
Now for the paint!! :hmmm: I beleive it's the same as the 777.
I just don't trust myself as a painter! Maybe someone someday?
BTW-my shop is on the floor still! :annoyed:

I'm kind if happy considering how big the crack was on the back but with a paint job the front & sides will shine!!
Le me honestly know what you think-Yes I have complete before photos to.
I just forgot to take inside photos but will again soon when I take her apart again-I want to make the speaker grill perfect-they really almost are but I'm going to do the best I can with this thing!

This was never opened-I'm almost sure of it! The screws were and are like mint and were like really tight!
The sound is phenonmonal!!
Here's the photos so far!
Have a super week-GB. :-)
