Thanks to all of the helpful information on this forum I was able to restore my first ghettoblaster! My original goal was just to dust off an old boom box but that quickly spiraled into much much more. Through a lot of trial and error (lots of errors) my M9935K has a new paint job, bluetooth integration, some LEDs, and Blaupunkt speakers.

Best of all it still sounds great and runs off battery power!

Thanks for all the feedback guys! It was a fun project!

@jimmyjimmy - Adding bluetooth just involves two steps: adding the line in and then powering it. Powering the USB was the biggest challenge for me but the solution is really simple:

  • The cassette motor was broken so that was my power source.
  • I opened a car/home usb charger to regulate the power into two usb ports and used a bluetooth powered by USB.
  • I then extended the LED on the charger to light the cassette window, extended the bluetooth antenna so I could put it in a spot that gave me good reception, and extended the bluetooth reset button to the tape counter reset button (no need to turn off/back on when I want to sync a new device)
Next time I will take pictures as I go through the mods so I have more shots of the box's innerworkings.
