So, I was perusing S2G trying to find the official belt sizes (for the GF-9191) and I stumbled across one of my first posts there... http://stereo2go.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/8306018954/m/3051053074?r=3051053074#3051053074

At the time I was unsure of what box to get as my "first" boombox getting back into these nostalgic portables. It's funny how I talk about some of the models I was considering... what I ended up with, and now how many I have...

The big joke is....... I wanted to put myself on a 3 box limit. Bredgeo called me out on that.

I remember getting so impatient while I was waiting on my minty Panasonic (took like 6 weeks via mail) that I bought a Sanyo M9990 after S2G member JIMSKI read that thread. He gave me a really sweet deal as it was missing an antenna. Honestly, I didn't know just how good this box was until I got an MP3 cassette player to use in it. I have ordered a motor and belts to get this sucker up to 100%.

Anway, almost three years later, I now have a grand total of 15 boomers including the egg in my son's room and the little Lloyds mono box I found. Plus, one painted to match my 85 Benz!

so , the bug bite ,
for better or worse
is inevitable :-)
:agree: I only wanted three boxes when I started also. I have two of those three, but I now have 20 or so that were never on that first list.

It is really addictive. You have to know when to walk away from a boombox.

When the bug bites it can bite hard. I too originally only wanted 3 boxes (JVC M70, Kaboom, and M9994k)...less than a year later I am up to 15. I have told myself that 30 is my limit but I have already picked out 10 that I will puchase this year. I find myself hiding my packages from my wife as they arrive and the kids are even in on it! My UPS lady and mailman know to NEVER put packages on the doorstep... :nonono: ...I gave them a special spot on the other side of the house by the bushes... :-D ...she has only found 6 of my boxes so I am safe for now. All I can say is I never though I would be hooked like this and it is too late...a monster has been created!...

:agree: with the two wise ones above completely. Initially I thought my limit would be a few big boomers then it I revised it to 15 or so then 30 really nice boomers, I still would like to get down to 30 or less some day but my current inventory is around 65. 65 is too many but damn it's hard to get the number down and keep it down.

Walking away from a boomer is tough but I've gotten much better at it, it really takes strength when your addicted to these plastic things.

I started out telling myself that I just wanted a "representative sampling" of the classic boombox. Well, I got me a "representative sampling," all right... of EVERYTHING!

Yes, it's an addiction. The more you get, the more you want. At least there isn't much chance of being pulled over and arrested late on a Saturday night for "buying and driving."

:-D

Oh do I have it!!
My very, very first one was in 1977'!! The Craig that i got from my brother-had that until about 83' then it just broke!
I bought my first new one in 1980'-then another in 1981' But sold my 9970 to my neighbor.
Then a bought the PC-55 new in 85'-had 2 then gave my 8989II away to my good friend Jennifer in 85'.
Then I had a few along the way in the late 80's.
I've always have had about 5-7 since the late 80's.
Then when I started s2Go I had 7 & jumped to 11.
Then things got interesting-in the last 2 years it went from 11 to 83-85!!
Lots of boomboxes-lots of fun!!!!!
I don't care! :-D
Getting 11 grails in the next 4 years.Slowing down though-room is a issue!!
I love boomboxes!!!-GB. :-) :-P  :surf:  :choco: :breakdance: :choco:

Must have missed this post. I'm still at one, working on #2 (RC 550), and the 3rd will be a "grail" - not sure which. Yep, 3 and I am sticking to it. ;-)
