Used to have one of these until a couple of years ago when I donated it to a friend in need of some special memories!!
Been looking around for another one but lately they have been offered on eBay by sellers on the gear or worse
I mean £200 for a RC-656LB - Come on guys be serious.........
Anyway, this very dirty one arrived yesterday with the record/play bar & most switches dirty (Usual scenario with these!)
It was obvious that no one had opened her up before, all the screws needed that quick 'Crack' with the screwdriver before undoing & internal wiring completely undisturbed - Always a welcome sign
This machine has a flat drive belt & a counter belt, amazingly there was nothing wrong with either one......I had planned to replace both but there simply wasn't any need!!
All switches & controls cleaned with Servisol then heads & roller cleaned & polished up before cleaning the casework which was soaked in foam cleaner & left to let it dissolve the crud all over it!
As usual with this era of JVC's the motor speed & head azimuth were still spot on, so all that was left to do was listen to her - & I had forgotten how mellow & detailed these stereo's are
Very nice machines & I will be keeping hold of this one!!
