Looks like it's out already. Man, I wish I could afford one. Even appears to use what looks like kevlar coned speakers.
Only one problem. How long do you think it'll take before the boobs look more like belly buttons?

I say.... first order of business from a customization standpoint is retrofitting 880 style grills into it!

I think it would look even better than the picture could do it justice. Would it sound on par against a standard retro box? Hmm, quite a call. I'll keep an eye out assumimg it hits these shores.

sort of a beautiful museumy piece -

hope it sounds huge -
and they offer the old analogue tuner option
plus a tape deck :-)

The write up said it has a retro analog feel to it.
The side speakers are coaxial (think, kaboom with tweeters -- hooray!), 10watts
AND 15 watt center mounted 6" (larger than kaboom's except single instead of dual) subwoofer -- 15 watts.

Specs suggest that it should sound good.
No more clunky kaboom bazooka styling
A conventional carry handle! WooHoo!
Standard rectangular shaped (a pleasant departure from all those stupid power-ranger/transformer styled stuff)
Great looks.

Hope somebody here gets one and gives us the scoop.

I wish it had an actual iPod mount instead of just that recessed spot to lay your iPod in and connect it with wires :-/
How can something so brand new and ultra modern like this not include that? :dunce:

I also agree with the reviewer in that a rechargeable lithium battery would have been nice too, especially for the prices they're asking for these things.

Anybody know where they have these at? I'll plunk down the cash if it sounds good. Maybe I'll sell my Bose 10 docking system. Hmmmm :hmmm: what to do, what to do?

I'd like to see it and hear it but for $499 I'll wait for the fire sale.

I'll wait for the better version to come out that has a rechargeable battery and an iPod dock - lol

I'd caution against a proprietary rechargeable battery pack, this always complicates powering devices years down the road. I think it's best if it uses standard batteries like C's or D's, if they make a battery pack that leaves this in place then it's okay. Or they can supply a set of rechargeable NiMH C cells and have a built in recharging circuit.

I would want it to be able to use both for sure!

Yeah, I want this pretty bad too. My only issue is the positioning of the iPod/mp3 player jack (it is on the side)- I can see bumping up against something and messing up the connection. Otherwise, agree with just about everyone else. This should sound pretty solid.

I think that was done to allow compatibility between any number of MP3 players including the ipod. Apple is notorious for changing their proprietary interface with their later devices so that it's incompatible with earlier devices. I bought a phillips DVD player with a built in ipod dock. Supposedly you could dock an ipod on it and watch the videos. Unfortunately, phillips did not know that it would not be compatible with the ipod classic (6th generation) and only worked with the earlier ones. The 6th generation ones required you buy a stupid cable dongle with an apple smartchip embedded to "activate" that feature. In other words, the feature is there but the software prevents it from outputting a video signal until it senses the smartchip. So the 6th generation can never be docked to take advantage of the video out feature since the dongle needs to be connected -- how stupid is that? I know appled did this to screw another $50 from us for the cable because I found that if you change the setting to video out (with cable connected), it will oblige. Then you can disconnect the cable, dock the ipod and it works fine -- for one program. As soon as the program is over, it defaults back and you need to repeat all over again. But I digress.

The point is that I'd prefer a standard interface anyhow that will work for sure on any portable device 20 years later. Not just until the latest apple product comes around and they decide they need to make more money off you and devise another change to their interface.

:agree: Right on Norm and just another reason I don't like Apple products. Not that MicroControl doesn't play games or even the various hardware manufacturers but Apple does it aggressively and often with what could be otherwise great products.

Excellent points! I guess I would just get some velcro to hold my iPod in place - lol!

:agree: :agree: :agree: with Norm and Don.

I'm not an Apple fan myself. I prefer a standard interface as well. It keeps your options open. Just look at the new Lasonic i931. Their cassette well is iPod only. And they've already had to make changes to keep up with Apple's changes.

These days, our 30 year old boomboxes (with functioning decks) still play cassette tapes. 30 years from now, you'll have to maintain a small Army of iPods to use with different boomboxes. Because, surely, your 2009 Lasonic i931 won't be able to play the same iPod that your 2010 Kaboom does. And that's gay, no matter how one looks at it.

I really love this TDK boomer. I'm really going to need to buy one. Looks to be one of the best ones out right now.
