Great video - interesting how in the early days of Hip Hop that the DJs generally took top billing in the bands over and above the MCs that laid down the rhymes - even more so in this case, as Flash had nothing to do with this song - the word finally prevailed
I have The Message ('82), White Lines ('83) and Step Off ('84) from BITD as 12" vinyl, labelled as "Grandmaster Melle Mel & The Furious Five" and regularly spin them - these are my top records!
Shame they didn't include the full extended version dialogue ending in this video but great all the same
That's pretty cool. "The Message" recently has become probably my favorite, or easily in my top 5 hip-hop tracks. Not only does it flow so smooth, but the words speak volumes, and translate flawlessly even to today. He deserves the recognition.
