Back in February 2014 I started the restoration of this Sharp GF-8989z. The radio it's self was in HORRIBLE condition with a shattered case and other issues.

I was never able to get the deck working and just used it on FM or Bluetooth. But recently I found a repair tech only 10 minutes from me and I have been giving him radio's to fix.

My plan has been to feed him my Logic Decks first. Last moth the 8989z went in and now it is back FULLY WORKING!

It still needs a tuner glass and an antenna.

The deck it self sounds really good. It stands up to the fidelity of the FM tuner so I am really happy the heads are still in great shape. Even the APSS system works!

I'm really glad I saved this box. It only took 4 years and 1 month to finish it!

Thanks guys, I guess these things are always a work in progress. I'm trying to shift my collection in a new direction. I pretty much have everything (except an M90), so now the goal is to get what I have 100% functional.

One thing I am really tired of with my collection is...

I want to take a box out...

"Oh, but I can't take that one, because the antenna's are broke",
"I can't take that one because the deck doesn't work",
"I can't take that one because _____".

I just want to be able to grab any box I want and go and always rotate them.

At least with my high end boxes. I have some radio's that will simply NEVER be grabbed for an event. They are only in the collection because they have sentimental value or look good on the shelf.

I have a Shapp GF777 that I restored completely and one VU meter was working off and on. When I was pushing the solder joints with the tip of the multi meter probe (stupid me), accidentally shorted a solder connection and now there is no sound. It broke my heart!

I am waiting for some time to post the pic of the circuit area where I shorted it.

Now I have to find time to fix it. This will be my looooooooongest project ever!

I've been seeing posts about how folks would love to take their box outside but don't because something or another is wrong with it.

I feel for you guys and I get it but please don't feel that way. Be proud. I'm outside right now with my Silver C100. I've worked hard to get it 100% but even if it weren't I'd still blast it :-) My neighbors never get a break
