Hi everyone-I finally got around to transplanting my Tape deck section out of my parts box as it was in better shape than the one that was originally in there.
My original one had a bad-craked capstan outer shell.I have thus fixed this as well now!!
I did most of this outside with my blue blanket as it was 60 outside & sunny Sat.
What a mess 2 838's all apart!! :-O :-)

After a few hours of getting everything soldered and re-wired in it worked!
Then I fogot about the tape speed so when I brought it back in at night I took it apart again and worked on it with the inner shell upright as to adjust tape speed. After about 5 minutes of close listening to 2 songs I got it just right.
I'm now securing my tape door so the hinges are real sturdy and will be putiing that in tomorrow night!

I even completely put my parts box back together as I'm going to ressurect that to now that I've fixed the deck, that goes in this week.

I call this my Frankenstein box as it has a good slider board I transplanted earlier & now the deck!! :surf:
I love this thing-it's super loud and very clean!

It's always nice to have a good tape deck working on your boombox!
I'm thinking this is good experience and I just may be getting better in my boombox repair!
H :-)  :surf: :choco: :surf:  ave a great week-GB.

Wow Brother, after just spending 8 hours tearing my 838 down and putting it back together and having it all work, I feel your excitement!

NICE WORK BTW, these 838's are no tinker toy, they take a mans worth of effort to work on and you did TWO :w00t:

Not a prob, I will see if I can find a part number.

I had 7 hours in mine as well :-D ......I can't imagine having TWO torn down!

But the reward is GREAT  . Now that all the switches are clean and everything is working....It sounds great! I love this radio!

But, wow....with 8D cells on board, this thing is a TANK! :-/
Now wonder JVC offered a shoulder strap.....I think I need one!

Yes I agree! It really is nice to have these working 100%! Yes they are heavy-JVC's are nice especially as this is a 78' model! I'm glad you got yours all going.

If I can find another slider board or get mine rebuilt(bad condition though) I will have 2 all working!

I still don't have the guts to tackle my Sanyo M-9998's though!! :-O
Those make these look easy I heard! :-O

Have a good week-GB. :-)

If I stumble across a slider board, I'll let you know. Never seen the inside of a M-9998, I'll be sure I pay for a working one!
