Hi everyone-After some transplants(slider board first) & now the cassette deck,it now works 100%!!
I fixed the deck door so it closes & opens with the little arm so it has that nice resistance to it!
Everything is working 100% and it looks so nice.

I do have to give it a little pull when opening the door but it closes perfect & the tape speed is perfect!

My parts box just needs a slider board & the cassette deck works perfect as well.
I fixed the cassette door so it closes ok to.Just missing one side of the inside arm but has the left side.
I'm missing the speaker grills on my parts box but that's ok-it looks kind of "beefy" with the exposed speakers.

It was actually fun doing this as it's good practice & it's so nice to get em going fully.
These have such nice sound especially at low to mid volumes!!
Have a good one-GB. :-)

Congrats, that has got to be a cool feeling! I wish I knew how to fix 'em up... Gotta rely on my repair guy who takes his sweet time! :annoyed:

NICE! I've been listening to my 838 every day since my rebuild this past weekend. These are great radio's.

QUESTION regarding your cassette door not opening, the metal "Springs" that are at the base of the door, (they are flat metal) do you have 2 on one side and 1 on the other. There is a strange position the side that has two and needs to be in for the door to open. I struggled putting it together, it seemed weird but then I saw how it worked.

I actually put my RC-838 into my main listening position last week. These things really rock! They sound better than they look, and they look great! Highly recommended you add one of these to your collection if at all possible....

I'm jammin' some Cypress Hill through mine right now....great box! I'm so glad I took the time to sort this radio out. Since this past weekend, it's been my main box.

BTW, GBoom767, belt sizes for the 838 are on this page:

Hi Lasonic 920! Yes I do have 1 on one side & 2 on the other & I know what you mean,I feel that the one with 2 metal springs is where 1 is maybe in the wrong position. :hmmm:
It opens and closes fine but won't like pop open, you have to help it a bit.
When I open her up 1 more time I'm sure I'll get it!
Have a great weekend-GB. :-)
