Look what I ran into just a few minutes ago while reading something about cassettes... This may very well be the very first boombox made? :hmmm:
It's the beautiful 1966 Philips 22RL962 Portable AM/FM Radio with built in cassette recorder and handle, btw!
Anybody know of another earlier Boombox than this one? :-)

If the date of productions is January 17 of that year, then the Philips 22RL962 is old like me

I would like to find one in the wild, to see him personally :breakdance:

This Sony that Freddie found down here is pretty old. It's supposed to be the first Sony that used transistors:

The Sony belongs to Oldschool69 (Freddie), right now my tech still has it and I am waiting for him to put it back together. It is am/fm no tape speakers on each end, model is Sony 8FS-40W and it does run on batteries also

Oh I see, so 'till now that Philips is the first boombox ever? Anybody seen/know of any earlier models that have radio, handle, and cassette player (with battery compartment also)?

I'm curious... :hmmm: Mr. Ira? Do you know of any other???
