It's Summer 1985 & Curry's release their last audio product before switching over to the dreaded 'Matsui' range
Now many of you will know I was (& still am) a big fan of the Triumph brand & it was sad to see the brand laid to rest..........
Many of their radio recorders were sourced from Japan (Hitachi made the sweet little SRR-3000) I am unsure of other manufacturers but as I got to play with & own many of them between 1982 & 1985, I was always fond of the budget priced but very good for the money machines & nearly all of them were
So to bid farewell to Triumph, I bought this RR-3007 very cheap, one channel down, slow wobbly playback & filthy inside & out (It works perfectly mate etc etc) I bought it because I know these machines well - they sold well & although very basic, they look nice & are in fact made very well in Japan
This took 2 hours to sort - I did the internals while Big-Tits cleaned the front panel (it's a front off jobby) along with all the silver controls etc.............
The rec/play switch & all the pots were sprayed generously with servisol which restored the right channel
& I spent one hour cleaning the tape deck as it's so accessible (great design & so simple) After a long testing it was ready to reassemble & everything works as well as it did in 1985
Now to those who ain't never seen or heard one of these, this is where a very pleasant surprise & amazement kicks in: They may be budget stereo's but the RR-3007 simply sounds extraordinary for the price..............& my new acquisition is no exception
I'd stake my reputation as an audio service guy & say this beats all those nasty Toshiba's of the same era - although the Tosh's were similarly designed build wise, they were just no bloody good
The RR-3007 was a fitting end to Curry's bigwigs getting it right with a great range of machines which will always be loved here in sunny Sussex..........Amen
