I hadn't bought a Boombox since 2003 until a few months ago when I was visiting Family in Colorado.. It was November, 11-11-2011 actually.. 2 of my sisters went to check out an apartment for my youngest sister, I walked across the street to the Antique Store.. Said, "I'm gonna see if they have a Boombox!" Dunno why, just figured I'd check since I was out of state in new "hunting grounds"...
As soon as I walk in, not 4 steps from the door, I look down and see a JVC RC-828JW with a $20/offer sticker on it! Even though it's clean, I ask the lady working if I can test it out.. I plug it in, switch it to FM radio and it's SCREAMIN! POWER!! I think it was only on 1.5 of the Volume slider, luckily I was the only customer in there.. She hands me a tape, it plays great! I think it was the Ohio Player's song "Fire"..
In my mind I'm yelling "YEEEAAAAHHHH!!!" But, I calmly said... "Oh, I'll give you $10 for it".. She took my money just as my sisters were walking in, the oldest said, "oh you found one!" :-D Luckily I wasn't driving, because the JVC sat on my lap with me staring in awe at it..

Haven't detailed it yet, just been enjoying it! Both antennas are solid, 1 Z-shaped scratch on the faceplate and some haze on the tuner window (I think I can buff out), all buttons and knobs there, over all a real NICE unit!
I just got done cleaning the switches and sliders so no static anymore when switching functions!
Got a FAT BOYS tape playing in it now perfectly, it's almost too powerful to play this late at night..

I can back from my Colorado trip with 3 boxes, I'll add more to that story later.. I'll see what pictures I have saved of the JVC, my camera died a couple days ago..... :-/

Loving the way the tweeters look on this one. Wish the woofs got the same treatment. Nice radio none the less.

Twin VUs and twin aerials! Thanks for sharing that story, JC. That's usually how it starts too. You walk into a place and say, "Hey! Check it out - a boombox!" Next thing you know, you have 30 of 'em in your room all staring you in the face.   Have fun on this journey. :surf:

Man, I love this JVC! Tightened up the hinges for the handle yesterday, so now it doesn't drop down until I want it to..
Put some batteries in it as well, gonna give it a real good detailing soon! I think this might see a lot of outdoor action this summer!

i love that box . i found a jvc at a yard sale back in 1999 for $20.00 .already had an m90 at the time it was my only box . basically this jvc pc 11 got me started up again just could not believe the quality of the old boxes and quickly smashed my cd box because it just seemed cheap too me and i had like the top of the line sony at the time but hardly considered it a boombox more like just another piece of stereo equipment . the cheap plasticy feel of the newer boxes never really grew on me  . i prefer the cheap plasticy feel of the older boxes much more :-D . but a lot of boxes have metal and wood in them and that's what interested me .

Today was nice and warm for a while, so I took advantage and got some work done outside..
Did some stripping of the old paint on my Chevy, but couldn't hear the tunes in the shop so I brought out the JVC!
Had the oldies station playing while I was working.. :stereo:
