While out last weekend I found a great old thrift store. The real deal, dirty, piles of cr@p all over the place. A place where you have to dig to find anything and the risk of tripping on something and breaking your neck is HIGH!
THIS is the place to find radios!
I spent about 30 minutes going through racks of merch, piles of goods and then, above my head, on top of a shelf, behind a lamp, I see something.
It's silver...
As I'm reaching for it, my wife says "It's plugged in, that's the radio for the store".
I said, "I don't care, everything is for sale".
As it turns out, it wasn't plugged in, the plug was just hanging down behind the shelving rack (that I almost pulled down on my head trying to get to it ! ! !
)
I was precariously perched on a pile of broken toys and other cold war artifacts trying to reach it. Thankfully my wife was there to root me on with encouragement like "If you fall and hurt yourself I'm not taking you to the hospital" and "You're going to break your neck over a stupid radio".
Once down, I did what we all do...spun it around to look and see if it's complete, knobs, battery door, switches, handle CHECK! All there!
Just then a man with a thick accent comes from a back room somewhere and says "What did you find?"
Of course my wife gives me "The Look" (you married men know what that is <_< )
I said to him, "I'm going to buy this radio". I figured if I said it firmly he would not question me and he didn't
(
back at the wife!).
He looked me in the eye and said..."Did you plug it in to make sure it works?"
"Nope" I said....so he grabbed the cord, plugged it in and....NOTHING! I wiggled the power switch and it crackled....THAT'S ALL I NEED BABY!
"$15" he say's....Works for me!

Straight home, straight to the work bench for a full tear down and cleaning!

I was going to re-belt it, but it turns out the belt had just slipped off the flywheel, re-installed, no problem!

Some Deoxit on the switches and knobs and everything works as it should, no problems! Antenna is straight, I hit that with a scrubbing pad, smooth as glass now. Cassette works fine, runs on AC and DC.

I also found this great old school skateboard at that store, had to get it!

Getting tough to find ANY radio's in the wild...was happy to have found this one!
