Thanks again for all the knowledge your members have shared - it has helped sourcing and repairing my boxes so much.
The latest project is a Sony FH-7 purchased from some nerk who sold it for £20 saying he was not sure if it worked or not as he didn't have a power lead, well it does work, even the tape recorder!
Here is a photo of my very first soldering attempt which replaced the blown bulb with a LED strip for the FM display, thanks RockE in particular (thread closed)
