Oh man, most of the Hitachi TRK Superwoofers from the mid 80's to mid 90's, I think I only have one that is fully working and sounding good!

Now, I pick up boxes that need some love, so there's no doubt that they could all do with some TLC but of all the manufacturers it's the Hitachis that seem to be the reccuring disapointments. Still, I see it as a chance that, if TLC won't do it, then there's plenty of modern remedies in the form of high efficiency chip amps and great value drivers available to give the boxes the sound to match the looks ;)

i was just saddened because you see the Massive 8 inch woofers on the GF9000 and you think it's going to sound gorgeous, but i couldn't believe such a large speaker could give out so little bass, i switched to my Panasonic DT5 with tiny 4 inch woofers, and it made an embarrassment of the sharp, that's why i had to mention it.

Most of all for the looks I lately got a Bumpboxx Flare 8 in the design of "Monster Energy Drink", and left to its own devices it really has an amazing thin sound for a box of that size and weight. I read about it before and the price was nice, so my disappointment is limited. Using an input device with another equalizer it can be set to an acceptable sound level, but it then still can happen the next song has a bit more bass which makes the whole thing snare again. And just inserting an SD card or USB stick to that beast only gives you the sound of an average supermarket radio.

For me the Prosonic / Techsonic PQR-9850. Although I don't mind the sound and it does have treble/ bass controls, it's sound leaves a "tinny, mechanical" behind. Unless it's on Stereo Wide mode it also sounds like its artificially muted somehow. It just doesn't have the warmth other large boxes possess.

The sad part even TRC 918 TRC 920 can run circles around most of these big overgrown boomboxes.

Yours must have something wrong with it. It definitely blows any vintage box away.

If it comes to loudness, of course. Also the bass is getting better then. But talking about "normal" indoor use even the New Wave Toys M90 Mini and the ESQ A30 are far ahead talking about full sound and bass. And there's a couple of videos on Youtube which also complain the Flare8 is a beast in loudness but could sound better and lacks bass compared to its size. So I guess mine is just normal. But anyway, I still like it.
