Hello fellow boombox nation I will be traveling 3 hours to a place to check out a collection of 11 boomboxes. The thing is barely new to the game so if any of you guys can point out to me. another thing is the guy that is selling them just wants to get rid of them and is taking a cheap price of 50$ for all of them. I asked him to send me a picture of them he sent me this picture you see below but like i mentioned earlier I do not know what's worth value. Would really appreciate if any guys can tell me the models, brand, names etc of these and whether or not I should make the long trip.

None of those radios are probably worth $50 on theor own, but as a group lot it's an excellent price to start of collecting with.

Getting familiar with these will put you in good stead to learn about fixing them up as well as finding out what radios you'd like to collect.
I wish I had a group lot of ten I could've picked up when I started collecting, if for nothing else to have spare bits for future repairs!

I say go for it!!

Rock On.

i also voted yes--
looks like there are a few boxes there that collectors collect :-)

plus --the dozen handles, battery covers, antennas , deck doors, speakers.knobs

and then you might end up on some warm beach :w00t:
at the 3 hour trip :-D

A road trip = take a mate
cost of gas ? = sell one of the boxes when you get them to pay for the fuel
$50 worth of boxes = you will fin some one's that you really like - the one's you don't - sell - trade - parts

think of the road trip like" smokey and the bandit" or " the blues brothers" - now go out and break the law getting them and have some fun

Looks like a bunch of entry level boxes. Worth 50 bucks for the whole lot?, I think so.
But all those boxes take up a lot of space. I live in an apartment so I limit myself to the number of boxes I can have at one time, so I don't look like a crazed hoarder.
Good luck with your decision.

I'm about 97.45% sure that #4 is a Montgomery Wards Airline GEN 3999

Although my real childhood sweetheart boombox was the Sharp GF-9292 (which I've got in good working condition) that Wards Airline box is first boomer I ever owned.

When they show up on ebay they go for around $30, and I've passed on them for whatever reason... They really aren't anything special, but that model does hold some nostalgic value to me and I wouldn't mind having one. So, if you do decide to make the trip to go get those, I'll commit to buying that one from you for $30 plus whatever the shipping cost... as long as the radio works okay and it's not a total beater. (and if you're down with selling it).

:-)

Panasonic RX-F2 is a great mini-box. Seen them go for upwards of $40 in good working and cosmetic shape. A good keeper-mini, IMHO.

JVC PC-30 looks promising, too.

Looks like you could go get those.... you could offload a few of them and at least make back your gas money and original investment cost.

Question is, is that worth a 7 hour road trip and your time?

PM me if you go through with it and end up with that Wards box and want to sell it.

Go for it, you'll easily get your money back later if you change your mind.

RA, is number 8 a Sanyo? Got one very similar in my shed :hmmm: i'll have a look tomorrow.

Thank all you guys for your help came to the conclusion that I will go get em. Probably not worth that much but its a good start since I have none at the moment. When I get them will post an update .

Oh Yeah, I say YES! The worst thing that can happen is you put each one on eBay for $10 each!

And I think that #8 is a Sanyo MW210. If so, I'd be interested in that radio!

I dunno. 3 hours x 2 = 6 hours @ 60mph = 360 miles. At $3.30/gallon and 18mpg, that will consume 20 gallons of gas too so add another $66 for gas, + wear/tear for the high mileage excursion + any toll costs, + an all day endeavor, and keep in mind that CL is really hit/miss. I would not be suprised to see the stuff already sold when you get there. The only way I would make that trip is if I was absolutely certain that they guy is gonna hold it for you. If he gets a ton of calls (and I expect he will) and someone says I'll give you $100 -- it's gone.

Thats true like the statistics you brought up on gas mileage etc. From my standpoint thought if I go and he does have all the boomboxs its a big hit. On the other side its possible that he might of sold em. Granted that I just called him he said he would hold them for me so thats the motivator or locomotive lol. Lets's just hope like you said that he does not sell them before I get there. hahaha
