Lately I've noticed on ebay that there have been hardly if any Studio 1M's except for one which has an outrageous price.

I guess it has to do with either the economy sellers not wanting to sell them because they won't get what they are asking for or maybe there is a shortage of these available.

Also haven't seen for awhile an M-90.

I would guess that unless they really need money or don't know the value most owners wouldn't sell in the current market. Fewer of the top boxes are garnering the mad money, there are unexplainable exceptions once in a while but overall prices are down.

Actually, I've been noticing that average/common boxes are really cheap but grails seem to still command pretty outrageous prices to the extent that many collectors are already priced out of the most coveted grails range.

If you've watched grail prices from the peak between 1 and 2 years ago M90's and the like are selling for less. A nice M90 was good for $1000 + just 1 to 2 years ago while now they are $500 to $600. Of course there are random exceptions but it seems the trend is down. I definitely agree the common boxes are cheaper, you don't see to many boxes going for $200 or more and at the peak it seemed most decent boxes sold for $200 +.

Just my observation and by no means scientific. :dunce: :-)

You definitely still have "big" money bidders out there. Some high ending prices just don't make sense.

Very true and price spikes happen all the time but there is no rhyme or reason to it when it happens. The fact is it still takes two nuts to drive prices up but you never know when that's going to happen.

If someone wants to sell me a nice M90 for $500 or $600, I'll take 2 of them. No make that 3. Oh, what the hell, I'll take 4.

  Cool off SD! :-P When I say nice I don't mean minty and fully functional but fairly nice looking and not beat up with a non working tape deck. There have been quite a few of these the last 6 months on epay and some never sold like the one the guy parted out for $200 woofers and $59 antennas.

As you may guess, not fully functional is something I could live with as long as it's cosmetically in good shape but something with cracks, missing parts, warped or melted case, etc. is NOT my idea of a nice one since those are almost impossible to correct.
