Hey, don't know if you've already done it, but I'm documenting my work on the M1 for a guide and took some photos of the process. Got a piece of wire and threaded it through the grill (it's pretty tough) and pulled gently but firmly to get it to come out.
Only thing I would change is to start with the center points of the top and bottom edge of the grill instead of the corner. Where the little black tab is on the picture.
