Hey all-
First time poster here...... I recently picked up a Tecsonic J-1 Super Jumbo and couldn't find much info on it, except that it was made under three names Tecsonic, Intermax and Promax. This boom box is 31" long and 16" high! I would have to imagine that it is one of the largest ones made. It has a really awesome light show that plays to the music. It was featured in the movie Do the Right Thing, carried by Radio Raheem.
Here are my questions:
1-What is this boombox worth?
2-What year did this come out?
3-My one tape deck plays slightly faster than the other- any fixes?

Thanks!
Mark

Welcome aboard, Mark!

If you are looking to resale the box, you probably won't get too many replies on its value. If you plan to keep it, it shouldn't matter... ;-) There are a few members here who can help out on the date and cassette issue.

I'm keeping this boombox....It's awesome! Just wanted to get a estimate on it's value, and when it came out. As requested here are some pics:

...just a suggestion but you may not want to have your very first question be about how much it is worth. Some may get the wrong impression about why you are on the site. That is a very minty looking box though. Congrats on an excellent find... :-D

Thanks for the props on my gameroom and the boombox. Thanks for the info on the date....1988....I thought late eighties when I saw it. It was featured in the movie "Do the Right Thing" and that was released in 1989. It also has the AUX jack labeled "CD IN" so perhaps it was when CD players where more mainstream.
As far as the cassette playing too fast...I guess I'll try putting a post in the repair section- maybe one the experts here can help me!

And here is something of intererst in my other hobby (classic arcade games) that I think many people here will like:
I have a machine in my collection that was made by Atari Games in 1986. The name of the game is "720 degrees" It is a skateboarding game that really captures the look and style of the eighties. The best part about it?? It has a BOOMBOX for the marquee area! The boombox sits on top of the machine, and it lights up and the speakers blast the games music and effects. Very cool....at least I think so...check it out!

Value is subjective on boxes like this you generally wont find many guys here worried about {openly} what a particular box is worth because mainly this site is 99% about the hunt for something particular and then once obtained the process of making it mint working fully etc. It is a subject a little taboo. However it is "THE PLACE" when needing advice and understanding of quite a cool hobby so dont take the response to value the wrong way I have never met a more polite and helpful bunch of people so you have come to the right place if you are going to keep that beautiful mamoth box and start the obsession of finding more. Welcome to the SPCA of vintage boomboxes. :-D

im on the search for your radio. years ago i went on vacation and my mother donated mine to the salvation army. she claims its to big and always in the way. i kept it in the garage where she never was. this is just one of the things she has gotton rid of on me while growing up. ill never let it down even as a adult that i am. how did you find yours? i look on ebay every so often but no luck. i sure do miss it. good luck with it and hide it from your mother lol.
