Formerly desired, recently acquired...

As previously stated HERE, I just copped Johnny's Technisonic Conion TC-999... The plan for today was to do some clean up work, spray some Deoxit here and there, and maybe - weather permitting - take the box outside and snap a few shots.

1st things 1st... I figured that since I was gonna open it up, I might as well take some pics of the inside of the box...

Truth be told, I've never and never will do a Driptip/Patron type cleaning... I'm simply too lazy for such an undertaking and don't have the time, patience or technical knowhow to take a box apart piece by piece, clean it, and put it all back together again. That said, all I do is take care of the most visible parts - like the speakers and function switches - by blowing compressed air on 'em or wiping 'em down with a moist cloth. The other stuff, i just don't worry about too much... :-D

I didn't take a lot of "before and after" pictures... To be honest, I have no "before" pictures of the outside of the box... I do have a few "after" pics tho:

More pics of this box will be on the way months from now.

BTW, on a related note... I'm not so sure that the TC-999 is a 3-way speaker system. It seems to me that those "tweeters" don't do much of anything. :-/ Like the Tecsonic J-1 Super Jumbo, when I cover 'em up with my hands, the sound remains the same. There are wires running to 'em tho - perhaps they're condenser microphones. :hmmm: Then again, unlike the Super Jumbo, maybe the TC-999 wasn't marketed as a box with a 3-way speaker system. Still, to look at it tells another story...

Once again, thanks to Johnny for the great sale/purchase!

Good looking Mono! And you look like you are warning anyone not to get too close!

I am like you when it comes to cleaning. Especially since a lot of mine have tons of stuff compacted and foloded into tight spaces/housings. :-O

The thrid tweet you refer to are piezo electric tweets. They are more for enhancement as the cap setup between the speakers cuts off the very high end of the frequencies the mid-tweet could produce. :-D

Beautiful score Mono!! Those TC-999's are really gorgeous radios..
I'm still on the look out for one of those to go with my C-123F.
I definitely prefer the gold design, magnificent!

Thanks, Master Z!

I think I can compare it to the Super Jumbo, but definitely not as much power. The J-1 on "3" sounds like the TC-999 on "6" or as it says on the volume dial, "60". Hard to compare the bass on both units... The J-1 can handle an 808 bass kick but it sounds light (you can't feel it) in comparison to my Lasonic TRC-931. The TC-999 can't handle an 808 bass kick so that make it somewhat even with the J-1. The TC-999 almost has the most background noise/static/hiss/whatever-you-wanna-call-it than any box I have without music being played. Of course, that's not much of a problem when the music's on. All that said, I think I prefer the TC-999 to the J-1... probably 'cause it's my newest box.

Honestly, those aren't the shots I was hoping to take but by the time the snow stopped falling, it was getting dark. The few pics I took turned out OK tho...

Much appreciated!

Thanks for explaining that to me. :-) I always knew about those cheap-ass tweeters, but when it came to that 3-way application, that was a whole 'nother matter.

Thanks, Floyd!

Yeah, I don't know how much snow we got but it was probably 6 or so inches less than what you guys got hit with! :-/ When I was a kid, I used to love the snow. Now that I'm older, I hate the snow! Hate walking in it, shoveling it, (when I had a car) driving in it... I could go without seeing snow for the next 5 years. :-D

Thanks, Bill and Glue!

Yeah, these big-ass Conions aren't bad. Perhaps I'll try to go for another Conion model sometime later in the year. :hmmm: Getting this box has me curious to hear what the C-126 sounds like again... Maybe it doesn't sound as bad as it did when I first heard it back in 1988. :hmmm: I always liked how they looked tho.

Glue, I'm gonna hunt down your pic of the C-123F.
