Teac reel tapes are pretty much the best-sounding, mass produced reel tapes you can find. Also, they look pretty cool with the the Teac logo and so on... But, they are also highly sought after and therefore not exactly what you would call inexpensive. Quality wise, they are on par with the better grade Maxell & TDK offerings from back in the day. If you want a cool looking tape and audiophile tape quality for listening on a home audio system with a good tape deck, go for the Teac.
But, if you just want some tapes that look cool in a boombox for display purposes or for a general listening boombox mixtape, then save yourself some money and go for the reel cleer tapes. You can get them at a much better price and they really don't sound bad. I have some of them and they exceeded my expectations by a fair margin. Then again, my component tape decks are pretty high-end and can bring out the best in most tapes. And if you plan on making the recording on a boombox, then definitely go for the reel cleer tapes as the deck in your boombox will be the limiting factor more than the difference in quality of the two tapes.
