I missed it on ebay.
Did you see something like this and can tell me more about it? How does it work?
Maybe the seller is a member ... he got a nice RC-550.

The cassette itself can be opened and the tape reels changed -- sort of like on a "real" reel to reel tape deck. More of a novelty than anything else cuz first, where are you going to get more of those tape spools and secondly, wouldn't it be easier to just swap an entire cassette than fiddling with those small small reels? I suppose watch maker types might dream about these minatures reels. For me, I say bit $$$ but a big  for practicality.

Hmmm, Beatbox. This was my first guess but the ebay-name sounded new... Thanks, fatdog.
And thank you superduper for the explanation. If I get it right, every box comes with an empty reel and two full reels (like its shown in the picture) and the idea is to not buy new cassettes but new reels for new recordings?
Maybe thats not handy or easy-to-use but If you have enough reels you need less space for music to carry with you. Because a real holds as much music like a regular cassette but need half the space... On the other hand it turns the evolution of recording media upside down. It was the bigest advantage of cassettes, that they are easy to insert. I like your point about watch makers =)
But it´s a nice gadget.

My fingers are too fat and my patience too short to bother fiddling with such small tape reels. If you ever tried to "fix" a broken tape cassette that got torn or chewed up by a bad behaving cassette player, then you know that it's no fun.
