I have both.. 3 speaker is obviously louder.. but I was pleasantly surprised with the sound from the A73.. it's packed in it's box right now but I will get it out and listen to it again.. one major flaw.. Bluetooth wasn't great on it.. it would cut out and that was annoying.. it appears it uses older Bluetooth specs that only work with older Bluetooth devices from what I have read.. another interesting fact.. the speaker on the back isn't the sub.. it's a passive radiator.. the left speaker in front is the woofer.. the right one is a passive radiator.. and the mini woofer on the right has a larger magnet to offset the weight difference from the left large woofer.. I have a bad habit of tearing down all my boomboxes :-)

Tried the A73 today next to my 3spk. No where near as good quality, but that might be just me.

Wish it had DAB over FM, and it would be cool to have a strap like the 2spk TDK

That is odd that the company would lie about the positioning of the speakers because I read the rear is sub and 2 large front are passive radiators and 2 small front are full range :hmmm:

So why do you think this?

be aware it is much smaller than the 3 speaker.. and weighs about a 1/4th of the weight.. really easy to carry around.. it's all plastic except the hex screws on the side.. the internal antenna is in the handle.. it's not even in the same league as the 3 speaker version.. but it does have a few pluses.. remote.. rechargeable battery.. and much much more portable.. wish it had a USB flash drive input instead of just a charging USB.. that's the real bummer for me.. still it does sound decent.. just not 3 speaker decent.. and forget the Bluetooth.. it sucks balls.. TDK should be slapped for putting older generation Bluetooth circuitry in they're newer generation TDK boombox.. they have no plans to fix it either.. shame on you TDK!

I have never heard the 3-speaker, but I have heard both the original "Cube" and the new one, and the old one is better.

Plus there is no way Bluetooth offers the same quality of sound as a USB or cable.

Well I actually went to best buy to check out A73 and the Bluetooth seemed nice. I'm just not impressed on size and sound

This is what the "Stereophile" website says about the A73.

The TDK A73 Life on Record Wireless boombox ($399.95 MSRP) features a 2.1 stereo configuration. At the corners of the boombox’s plastic face, two 2" full-range drivers pump out most of the music you hear from the TDK. Centered under the full-range drivers are two 5.25" passive radiators whose domes are painted in lust-worthy gold. In the rear of boombox is a 5.25" subwoofer which provides booty-shaking bass. The subwoofer in the back is tuned high at 350hz so the bass is visceral, and you can see it as the passive radiators bump and grind.

So I read that both small full range drivers are 7w/ channel and subwoofer puts out 15w. That's almost 30 watts total. The 3 speaker put out 35 watts total. 10w/ channel and 15 watt subwoofer. When I get unit and test at home will be the real test. I tested it in a large store so maybe that's why it didn't sound very loud.

But TMR says the speaker on the back is actually a passive

Well I'm not sure which ones are passive but one is the sub. The rear speaker should be sub and 2 front passive. Once you open up unit though it voids warrantee which sucks. I wish TMR took pics of it ;-). Maybe since he opened once he can reopen and take pics

Ok this YouTube video shows the placement of speakers and was made by TDK. So I'm not sure why TMR's unit had sub in front :hmmm:

Ive got one of these Bill ( the A73) and i use it alot. Its not the loudest box in the world, my two i931's are both louder, but what sound it has got is not bad quality. On the more bassy tracks ive played on it i've had to keep the volume a bit lower, when ive turned the bass right up it has started to sound a bit sh1te.

The main reason i use it alot however is because of the BT and the recharge-ableness (is that a word lol). I have had a few issuses with the BT connectivety dropping off but not too much, certainly does not seem as often as others.
I just find this such an easy box to grab if your jumping in the shower or doing some chores around the house, I aso use this box connected to my TV quite a bit.
Its also a good size for a carrying box and not heavy at all.
I get about 5ish hours out of mine on a full charge but the charging is also a bit of a pain somtimes as it dosnt seem to be charging up unless the red light is on, and this seems a bit random  its not like a laptop thats always charging when on AC. This could just be my unit, im kinda used to it now.
It also has an AC/battery switch on the back, this could also tie in with my charging issue.

I cant compare this with a 3 speaker TDK as ive never heard one but from what ive read the A73 is some way off on outright power but it does make up for this in convenience.

Thanks Alan, I'm actually starting to look forward to it as when I tested it I couldn't figure out how to set bass and treble and I was in a huge store where ceiling was tall so not really any walls to bounce music from ;-)
