Got a Crown 850 that plays tapes just a tad bit too slow. It also starts with a slowness for about one-half second before reaching full speed. This is pretty common on a lot of boxes, but I wanted to see if I could improve it. Took it apart, belts are fine, not slipping at all. Didn't see any tape speed adjuster screw on the motor. Took off the flywheel bracket to see if there was any kind of adjuster somewhere behind it --- Didn't find one. Flywheel/capstan has the typical fore-aft freeplay clunk, so it's not dragging against anything. Any ideas?

It may be slipping belts... You may need to replace.. You can try and use rubbing alcohol to clean belts and head ;-) :-D otherwise you should change belts... Good luck

there should be a speed control ,it's usually hidden under the small round sticker on the back of the cassette motor.

Hmm, didn't think about the sticker. Guess I'll have to take it apart again to check. Is it something that can be turned with a regular screwdriver?

Think its a philips and it is definitely under a sticker on the top of the motor on the 850.
