Tape motor adjustment screw doesn't exist?

Got a Panasonic tape motor here. With the little black hole in the back, with the rubber over it. I stick a jeweler screwdriver in there and can't find anything at all. Why would they put that hole there if there's no adjustment screw?

i think them type of motors are designed to have the adjuster pot on a seperate board, like on the J1.i'm no tech guy though i'm just guessing.

Did you miss the screw head by chance?

I am not doubting you but want to check if the tip of the flat head went straight through the hole or not.

The screw driver tip should be really thin too.

I used a plastic screw driver with say 2.5 mm wide and less than 1.0 mm thick tip.

Oh so it's just a traditional pot, like that photo shows? If so, then I can understand why it's difficult to feel. I was able to insert it at least 1 cm inside, and in fact I bottomed out, but I didn't feel anything to turn.

Not all motors are adjustable. Even the m9998 and m9990 are not adjustable if I recall correctly.

They don't even have an external pot somewhere?

So, if the speed's wrong you just have to replace the whole motor?

If the speed is wrong, normally there is a lubrication issue or something causing drag. The length of belts is critical if an M9998 is expected to play at the right speed.

I know the decks I've serviced that didn't require a speed adjustment always sound better with no warble etc.

No Reli, on those models, if adjustments to fit and assembly and lubrication and friction doesn't resolve, then it's time for gnashing of teeth. Or maybe motor replacement.

If you check service manual there is no mention of tape speed adjustment either, unlike on M9994 which describes the procedure.

Hmm, i had the very same trouble finding the pot for Sony CFS-45L, no mention in service manual, only thing you can adjust is the screw that is retaining the flywheel in place, turned this one but not much of improvement. Has anyone any idea where it might be ? It plays and winds alright but sound is just little bit slow. No pot on the motor either, checked that already.

Yes the early ones did not have a pot.
This is what I clearly said way above :-) If somebody doubts me,
I REFRAIN FROM COMMENTING ON THE THINGS I DON'T HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF!
Those used 2 centrifugal switches inside

Interesting, I thought all motors had an adjustment, on motor or on board.

But like you Reli, I could not for the life of me find the adjustment pot inside the motor (discolite).

So some radio's have no adjustment at all?

What if the tape plays too fast (discolite)
