I have an issue with restoring my saba transeuropa.
It had a melted drive belt which i replaced.
But the deck is not working still.
Pressing play button does nothing except lighting the led. I have 11 volt on the el motor connections.
I have removed the belt remains that i can visually see.
None of the buttons work really.
Play button is engaged when pressed down but nothing happens.
I can turn the flywheel manually fine but does not help.
Could anyone help me?

Hello again. I have been thinking sleeplesly tonight :)
1. What purpose does that white plastic arm have, that is linked to some sliding bracket on the circuit board?
2. Could it be that the deck does not recognize when there is a tape in the slot so that it does not engage?
3. Belt motor and tone head bridge are driven separately? What motor lifts the tone head and roller?

It maybe the logic, try to spin the flywheel by hand it should go clunk.

Sometimes when a belt fails it makes the motor spin all the time and eventually fails, test the motor with a 9v battery

1. Probably the lever that trips the record/playback switch. This switch position determines whether the unit is in playback or record mode, will not affect motor operation.
2. Could be, but it's probably not the source of your issues.
3. Not likely. Most such decks (and yours is not a complicated one with multiple motors) have the head carriage raised via a combination of gears, fulcrums and levers powered by the spinning deck motor. In other words, your heads won't engage if the motor doesn't spin.
4. You did not mention if the motor spins. Are you sure it isn't burned out? Oftentimes, a deck with a broken belt will spin continuously, even if just listening to radio or other modes. Over time, this can cause the motor to simply wear out or burn out.
5. You mention that the motor contacts have 11V. How did you test, with meter leads connected to both motor (+/-) contacts or did you test the (+) connector but get your ground from someplace else? The reason I ask is because it's possible that the motor may be switched on the negative side so if you only tested the (+) connection as being hot, that does not mean that the motor is getting a complete circuit if the ground leg is switched.

Hello.
Thanks for the replies.
I have checked around on the internet a little and yes it is a single motor that drives everything.
The conclusion i make is that the el motor is not running at all even when I measure 11 volt on the solded motor terminals.
I will do as hopey suggests to check it with a 9 v battery.
But since it is not spinning with 11 V its probably jammed or broken and I will have to disassemble it.
But the motor is easy to spin by hand(no resistance) so it is not stuck. Maybe broken inside?

Superduper, maybe you are right that the motor is bust.
Yeah I tested with a voltmeter on the solded motor cables. Tested by connecting both + and - to the voltmeter.

Cleaned and grinded the contact surfaces a little and it sprung to life. I wonder if i should grease the contacts?

Well another setback. Motor is running when connected directly to battery but not when connecting to the wires on the circuit board. Some defect components on the circuit board?

I found this motor in an old stereo in the attic. Just buy a pwn speed controller.
It works good. From a jvc ministereo around 2000.20200624_210957.jpg
