Hi,as you all might know I have a lot of Pioneers,
SK-51,61,71,95.& many more but the 1 piece SK 51-95 is what I'm trying to thin down or sell.
So I've had a 71 with no tape door and 1 antenna is missing its top. Also missing the memory switch cap and function switch tip is broken off.
The sound on the 71 is ok but I feel the woofers may be 'tore uo'!

So now for the SK-51,fully works, just missing the battery door and 1 antenna is 1/2 there.
The sound is excellent on the 51 and the deck works great, just needs a belt soon but still fully works.
So I'm going to make the 71 a fully intact fully working unit.

Switching the 1 good antenna, tape door, and memory switch cap and possibly the woofers and putting them into the 71.
Both are in ok to good shape but this will make a nice good one.
Been waiting to try to find a SK parts unit but I kept missing out.
Just want to make 1 nice one out of these 2.

Any suggestions guys? These woofers in these are not up to the job in my opinion.
But the 51's are in better shape and I feel these woofers are identical.
I'll keep you up to date as I get this done this week.

Now I'm going to feel bad for the 51 as it will be ravaged! 😎📻🎼🎵🎶📟💳

Operation success!
Transferred the tape door, memory switch,1good antenna, and the function switch cap from the 51 to the 71.
Now my Pioneer SK-71 is all complete and fully functioning now!!😎😀📟
Now to find a SK-51,61,71,or 95 to make the 51 all good to.
Oh and I transferred the woofers to from the 51 to the 71.
Much better sound now!! Speakers are identical in every way.😎📻📟💳

I guess no one cares,that's alright-sorry I don't have photos yet.

Very wrong!

I'm a huge fan of the 95 (have one myself) and would love to see some snaps of this surgery!

Thanks for saying that,I have older photos and yes I took a couple of photos today.
Took about 2.5 hours as there was a lot of soldering for the speaker swap and did some cleanings of the back and front cases.

SK's can be somewhat tricky, taking the back off then the front, like a clamshell and also have to lift up and to the side to get the tuning knob to slide out of its side.
I'm very happy to have 1 full complete unit out of these 2.😎📟

Yes it's a bugger of a box to work on. I've got it working 99% but have a slight issue with the Play button engaging completly and the deck coming up to speed. If I depress the same key again fully it solves my problem, but I'm stumped on what causes this.

Maybe Bill could shed a light on this. I've followed your SK-71 refurb and found it incredibly useful.

P.S. Ghettoboom. I have one antenna that's suffered a slight ding and the makes the full extraction more difficult. You wouldn't have a spare antenna you'd like to sell would you. I'd be most grateful.

Hi Bill and Brutus, thanks for your replies.
I actually have the same problem with my 71! Just takes some finagling and it starts up to speed.
These decks are intricate,I took one down on my 95 and fixed it completely, must have been like over 50-60 parts at least!! Probably 100!
All my other decks work great 51,61,95 just the 71 does this.
Sorry I don't have an antenna as I used the last good one to make my 71 complete.

Good to see I'm not the only one boggled by the complexity of the deck! LOL

NO worries about the antenna, just thought I'd try. Looking forward to the pics!!

Yeah the decks and units themselves are a beatch to work on. One I had someone cut all the wires to take apart and I had to reattach them all to get box to work. Decks are very touchy and seem to jam somewhat easy. But all in all they are well built beautiful units and the 95 is definitely my favorite 😜

Honestly I'd have to see it but sounds like something is jamming and needs fresh cleaning and lube.

I hope that's all it needs Bill. I'm really enjoying this box and would love it if I could fix this with a simple solution like this.
Thanks for the input!

Just needs some parts.
