It is shiner than other paints but does not look like the cap, which is real chrome. It also can't be clearcoated to protect it because the clearcoating will dull the paint to a murky pewter color.

@Ira: Yeah, it looks good. Except it takes 18 years, 4 months and 13 days to dry. After that, your finger prints will no longer be embedded by simply touching it. But even then, you still can't handle it with any amount of vigor because it has the scratch resistance of tofu. Personally, I think clear coated silver would be a better coating for anything that will see any kind of handling or use. That chrome stuff is OK for use behind grills where it can't be touched. Ever.

To what purpose? For clearcoating the chrome-paint?

Won't work. Has to do with the process of how that "chrome" finish happens to be. I think the surface tension causes the metal bits to "float" to the surface during application where it crystalizes providing you with that brilliant finish. As soon as you shoot it with another coating, the metal powder will go back into suspension and not crystalize in the manner necessary to provide you with that brilliance. The only way I can see any coating working without disturbing the "chrome" is one that is not solvent based and therefore, not bring the "chrome" particles back into suspension. Hmm, know any water based clear coats? :hmmm:
