Hi, my first post on here.
Hi to all ,good to know people are carrying the torch for the boombox,I think they are fascinating - bought my first one in 1977
and it was a beautiful machine ,Sharp GF 9090e ,and had it for 23 years .
I have bought another 9090 recently ,and would like any advice on the sticky ,grating sliders.
I've tried WE 40 fast drying contact cleaner on them , but not much progress..
Also , if I can get them to work , do they have to be lubricated, and if so ,what with?
Thanks in advance, John.

welcome John.
Just contact cleaner should suffice. Try CPC if in the UK if the one you have is not working.
Besf to spray in to the slider with the unit open and gently work the slider back and forth.
In worse case scenarios, the small brushes which run along the tract become dislodged or the tract itself becomes disconnected and no longer provides resistance.
Try a good contact cleaner first, i dont think the wd40 contact cleaner is as good.

Hi Dave , thank you for your advice , I have the machine opened up and apart from the problem I have ,this model is rather accessible for fiddling , especially in comparison with the GF 8080 I have just refurbed.
I had to take most of it out in order to change belts ,it was a nightmare.
will try and find CPC and hope that it works better.
on another note , do you have any ideas on how to repair a missing piece of the plastic casing?
Was thinking some sort of plastic repair formula?
Many thanks.

CPC is a retail outlet selling components. Look at their site for contact cleaner.
For plastic, I have recently used e-tech ultra fine surface filler but for larger areas there are other plastic weld solutions to try. Some members here have had great success with plastic repairs.

The only way to make it side probably is use silicone grease after you have cleaned the contacts.
