After a mamouth 45 day wait i finally took ownership of this Clairtone 7980.

Ive still not finished testing this monster but have been playing my mp3 through the line in and it thumps like no other box i own.

This is exactly as it came out the box, certainly not a minter but i love it.

awesome  sometimes i prefer a box that is a little beat up, so much more use able than something minty .

Cheers Floyd

Btw, are US and Canadian plugs differant? My Lasonic from the US has two pin but one is a little bit bigger than the other so it can only plug in one way, this boxes cable has two pins but both exactly the same size so it fits fits in my 240 110 step down either way? im a little scared to plug it in so im running on cool DC :-D

Still a nice boomer.

You are right, the Conion/Clairtone C100 is a BEAST when it comes to volume and bass. It is like no other box I own as well

those adapters are prolly made to fit into older usa plugs as well . over here we have older houses that have outlets that are made for plugs that have prongs the exact same size. all the newer modern houses built in the last 30 years or so have outlets that are made to accept plugs using 1 prong wider than the other newer style ,and the older type plugs on like an old lamp or something ,i'm pretty sure it's for polarity reason although ac current goes both ways .

US and Canadian plugs are exactly the same. You are taliking about polarized versus non polarized plugs. On a polarized plug the wide blade is earthed, the narrow one is "hot". Inside some applicances, such as a lamp, you want the threaded part of the light bulb connected to earth, and the little button on the middle connected to hot, so you don't shock yourself by accident if you happen to come into contact with the screw

If an appliance doesn't have a wide and a narrow blade on the plug, it means polarity isn't relevant to safety. Your boombox likely has a permanently energized mains transformer, and power is switched on the seconday side - so it's not relevant which side of the primary winding is earthed. So using that plug with your step down transformer is not an issue.

What does matter however is mains frequency. Britain has 50Hz power, which requires a power transformer with a heavier iron core than north american 60 Hz power. Operating 60Hz equipment on 50 Hz will probably be okay, but if it's especially cheaply made, and the parts have marginal tolerances, then you could over heat the power trransformer. Read the label on the back of the boombox -, if it says 50/60Hz, then it's a green light to use the step down transformer. If it says only 60Hz, you may want to look into either replacing the mains transformer with one rated for 50Hz, using a 60Hz inverter, or a DC power supply.
